Editorial Reviews

Review

"I would call it a 'classic' sexuality book with cutting-edge content. I love how it addresses politics, particularly in chapters on contraception." Dianne Kerr, Kent State University

"OUR SEXUALITY has proved to be the perfect text for my undergraduate course on human sexuality. It is well-structured, formatted, and presented, with interesting sidelines alongside the expected and necessary information. This is the text that you have been fantasizing about." David Yarbrough, University of Louisiana, Lafayette

"Crooks and Baur provide a readable text that provides students with a solid understanding of human sexuality. The content is neither salacious nor prudish but instead is a forthright presentation of relevant topics. The text sheds light on relevant themes in the study of sexuality while simultaneously providing specifics on more concrete topics like sex research and anatomy." Chris B. Current, Walla Walla University --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

About the Author

The integration of psychological, social, and biological components of human sexuality in this text is facilitated by the blending of the authors' academic and professional backgrounds. Robert Crooks has a Ph.D. in psychology, and his graduate training stressed clinical and physiological psychology. In addition, he has considerable background in sociology, which served as his minor throughout his graduate training. His involvement with teaching human sexuality classes at the university and college level spans two decades.

Karla Baur has a master's degree in social work; her advanced academic work stressed clinical training. She is a licensed clinical social worker in private practice, specializing in couples and sex therapy. Karla has been certified as a sex educator, therapist, and sex therapy supervisor by the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists. She has instructed sexuality classes at a medical school and several colleges and universities and has provided clinical training for other mental health professionals. Karla has also found a way to combine her clinical skills with her love of horses by providing performance enhancement training for equestrians. Furthermore, Karla has been involved in the HIV/AIDS program in Kenya, and in 2004 she joined Bob and Sami to train peer educators.

Some of use may take the class for GE or random credit. For some classes you can get by without the book, and yes, for most general human sexuality courses you can get by without the text. However, this text is extremely well thought out and articulate. It provides good insight into contemporary sexual issues and explores vast controversial issues with surprisingly adequate depth.

Most textbooks I've read are tediously boring, but this one is definitely an exception. I used this during a 3-week intense summer class, and I LOVED this book. Maybe it's because I'm a pervert, maybe not, but this book is extremely interesting. In fact, it is one of the few I did not sell after using it. I would highly recommend this!

This text is an excellent resource to cover all things about sex. It covers even those taboo subjects other text may shy away from. The personal stories are wonderful, the graphics and pictures are well-place, colorful and applicable. A resource to keep around.

This textbook is good for a complete, generalized study of sexualtiy in today's society. Basically, a basic beginner's look at human sexuality.

THIS BOOK EXPLAINS AND DETAILS SEX JUST AS THE AVERAGE PERSON MAY EXPRESS THEMSELVE. IT HOLDS BACK NO SOFT OR HARD OPINIONS AND SIMPLY TELLS IT LIKE IT IS IN TODAY'S WORLD. THERE'S NO NEED TO BE SHY OR WITH-HELD ON ANY TOPIC. SEXUALITY IS DISCUSSED IN AN EXTREMELY BROAD FASHION, RECOGNIZING EVERYTHING THAT RESULTS FROM OUR TIMES. IT MAY BE VIEWED AS EXPLICIT; HOWEVER, AGAIN, IT IS A MIRROR OF OUR SEXUAL ACTIVITIES, BOLDNESS IN BELIEF OF SEXUAL PRACTICES AND GRAPHIC WITHIN ITS CONTENT.

IF YOU ARE COMFORTABLE WITH THE OVERALL SEXUAL PRACTICES AND BELIEFS IN TODAY'S WORLD, YOU WILL BE COMFORTABLE WITH THIS BOOK, ON THE OTHER HAND, IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS DEALING WITH THE VARIETY OF EXPRESSIONS DISPLAYED IN OUR SOCIETY AND DON'T BELIEVE IN AWKWARD OR UNCOMFORTABLE SEXUAL PRACTICES BEYOND HETEROSEXUALS, THEN YOU MAY EXPERIENCE BEING UNCOMFORTABLE WITH MANY SUBJECT MATTERS.
