With Our Story, Shahrzad Sepanlou makes her solo debut onto the Persian music scene. No stranger to the scene, she began her professional singing career as one-third of the female trio Silhouettt.

Product Description

Our Story is not so much a political statement -- though no story of the Iranian experience is fully told without making one -- as it is an emotional tour de force. It is an album about memories of the homeland and losing friends and all that is familiar, but it is also about finding strength and love in the face of those losses.

Work on Our Story began when Shahrzad joined talents with an old friend and Silhouettt collaborator, Farzin Farhadi. Farzin is a saxophonist and composer, playing both roles -- as well as producer and songwriter -- for this album. He has several of his own instrumental CDs on the American market, including: My World, and In a Faraway Land.

Our Story contains 9 songs--8 originals and 1 remake. Lyrics are written by such writers as Partow Nooriala, Mohammad Ali Sepanlou and Zoya Zakarian, three very well known and well loved artists in the Iranian community. This CD has a fresh sound combining the western jazz and techno sounds and beat with more traditional Iranian melodies.

In Europe Iran is Terra Incognita. A few have heard about its singers, nevertheless, very slowly we're starting to get some hints, Gugush, Leyla and also Shahrzad.
Her main merit is to appeal European modern audience with an international sound but also keeping faithful to Iranian tradition. A detailed study reveals not only topics but also Iranian instrumentalisation. This balance together with the powerful tool of her voice makes this CD a must for those in need to explore new territories. Never before has exploration turned out to be so fruitful!

The songs are all moving and bold. Shahrzad has the confidence of a diva when she sings. I am so impressed with her talent and with her down-to-earth (khaki) style. She is a no nonesense singer and has inspired me and my friends. I personally believe that this is one of the BEST cds that has been produced in the persian market.

Shahrzad shows that she has all the ingredients for becoming a star in the Iranian community as well as making it in the international market. Her songs and her voice have depth and emotion. Half of the songs are fast and upbeat which are great for dancing and half of the songs are slower tunes with serious messages. Highly recommend.
