I bought this CD thinking I would be get to listen to the song that played at the end of the last episode of Northern Exposure. I was disappointed: the version of Our Town on the Stecher/Brislin CD is a pale imitation of the original by Iris DeMent. Iris is the one who knows how to sing the song she wrote: it needs a country twang, it needs a fiddle, it needs the phrasing she gives it. If you want to relive the last moments of Northern Exposure, buy Infamous Angel by Iris DeMent.

Americans are always moving, or being moved away from. That often means saying "goodbye." This is an album evoking those feelings of freedom, regret, loss and starting anew. No, their version of "Our Town" is not the same as Iris DeMent's, but why make it a competition? Don't overlook how Jody and Kate's version fits into the seamless sequencing of this album! Englishman Martin Carthy is right in telling us Americans that Jody Stecher is a national treasure. So is Kate Brislin. This is one Grammy Award winner I could get behind. (Pops Staples "Father, Father" was another.) Folk, schmolk: this a great American album like Wrecking Ball, The Basement Tapes, or Spirit in the Dark. Great musicianship and singing. I can't believe you don't have this already!

I found the music on this CD to be wonderfully relaxing. Perfect backgroud music! If you like harmonizing folk music, then this album is for you.

I felt as though I was a citizen of Cicely, Alaska, listening to "Chris in the Morning!" For those of you not familiar with Cicely...it is the quaint little town of the hit TV series Northern Exposure.

I highly recommend this CD for your listening pleasure.

I have almost all of Kate & Jody's CD's, but this is the one I keep coming back to. I LOVE it !!!! For the choice of songs, as well as for Jody's brilliant musianship and for Kate's angel voice.
