Book Description

July 1, 1998
A comprehenisve look at what American youth know -- and don't know about personal finance. What do high school students know about such personal finance basics as retirement, credit use, insurance, inflation and budgeting? Do young people who have credit cards or own stock know more about personal finance than those who dont? Is there a link between financial literacy and personal bankruptcy rates? How will young peoples lack of personal finance knowledge affect the American economy?

These and many other related questions are examined in Our Vulnerable Youth: The Financial Literacy of American 12th Graders by Lewis Mandell, Ph.D., Dean, School of Management, State University of New York at Buffalo. The 120-page book presents interesting facts, details and tables from Dr. Mandells 1997 national survey of more than 1,500 12th graders conducted for the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy, plus new findings identified since the surveys release in May 1997.
