Charity Nebbe, beloved by public radio listeners in the midwest, hits a solid home-run with her first book. Paired with a crackerjack illustrator, Jeffrey Ebbeler, she gives us a wonderful evocation of the canine-human bond. Simple premise, which every dog-lover will appreciate--we take a walk with Abby, (a girl), and Kirby, (her truly radical Boston terrier). We see through the eyes of the girl, and the eyes of the dog, in clear engaging prose, and additional humor and enhancements by way of the pictures. Through the matter-of-fact account of their excursion comes a story of mutual love and understanding. (Full disclosure: I had a Boston terrier as a child, and when I saw Kirby on the cover, I knew right away I was going to love this romp). --

In the new book "Our Walk in the Woods" by Charity Nebbe, illustrated by Jeffrey Ebbeler, you'll see two very funny and very different ways of seeing a simple stroll in the forest. Every Saturday morning, Abby gets up early. On Saturdays, she takes her dog, Kirby, for a walk in the woods. Abby looks forward to getting out, and she knows Kirby likes it, too...Kids will love seeing the world from two perspectives, particularly from the dog's-eye view which is unique and funny.
I was as totally charmed by the illustrations as I was by the quick-to-read story, and I think, if you get this book for your kids, it's one that won't sit idle on the shelf very often.

About the Author
Charity Nebbe spent her childhood wandering the prairies and woodlands of Iowa. Now she explores the woods near Dexter, Michigan, where she lives with her husband, daughter and son. They share their small home with three wonderful mutts, five lazy housecats, and two cats that are quite busy.
When she's not out walking in the woods with dogs and kids, Charity hosts public radio programs on Michigan Radio in Ann Arbor. This is her first book for children. charitynebbe.com
Jeffrey Ebbler has been creating art for children for almost a decade. He has done a variety of projects, including illustrations for magazines, CD covers and book covers, as well as paper engineering for pop-up books. He recently illustrated a wild group of vegetables in The Runaway Garden. He has also illustrated two other children's books Bake you a Pie and Punxsutawney Phyllis. He and his wife both attended the Art Academy of Cincinnati. They currently live in Chicago with their three cats, Annie, Punch, and Judy.
