I remember these books from my childhood, but we only had two volumes, VIII and X. Thanksgiving my 12 year old great grandson loved number ten with its enigmas, puzzles and conundrums. That was when I looked up the name on amazon and there was a whole set. The box arrived Friday and after just a few perusals found the books marvelously interesting. This set had much better bindings than what I had so am thrilled. Thank you. Would love to know more about where the books were because they are in very good condition. Susan

The set is a turn of the Twentieth century home education encyclopedia. It has many wonderful illustrations and much historical value. Don't buy it from Ed's Early Editions. They did not send what we ordered, it was incomplete set, contained a volume we didn't want, arrived with silverfish in the pages in a broken box with twisted tape. When we requested redress we got bupkiss. No replies from Ed or whomever runs the deal. Final evaluation. Set in good condition complete GOOD (we didn't get it). Ed's Early Editions GARBAGE (we got reefed).

If you can find a good set of these books I strongly advise buying them if you like old book charm with interesting photos from years ago and interesting old drawings. Not an encyclopedia per se but they do cover most everything. Written for younger folks but adults will find them interesting as well. Their age makes them interesting in it's own way. Even the endpapers are interesting with a zeppelin in the background as modern transportation at least on some editions. Many modern books try to cover the same material in a modern way and the old book/world charm is just not there; they are in fact dull by comparison. Not to be missed old school or not.
