Great Character Development, More depth! Loved it!,

This review is from: Ouran High School Host Club, Vol. 12 (Paperback)
It's true that what originally drew us all in was the comedy and oddness of it all. A host club at a rich kids school with Haruhi thrown into the mix. But every good story needs good character development and I think Bisco Hatori did a great job in doing that and furthering the story.
I was left wanting more just as always! True things are getting a little more "serious" but thats because the plot is thickening and it would seem the story may be soon coming to a close once and for all. Who will Haruhi end up with?! It may not be revealed in the next volume but I can't wait to find out all the same! Keep up the great work Ms. Hatori! I eagerly await for future volumes as always! ^_^

More story, less funny,

This review is from: Ouran High School Host Club, Vol. 12 (Paperback)
Ouran's saga seems to be drawing towards a close, or at least more so than in previous episodes. Since Kyoya is in France and the rest of the club thinks that Tamaki is also there (he's hiding at home), most of the story concerns the twins' identity search & exploring their feelings for Haruhi. Haruhi is present in the story but mostly as an accessory; Mori and Hunny are simply there as their usual background characters. Kasanoda is mentioned once (but not part of the story) and I also thought there was no sign of Nekozawa either...until I looked at the back cover of the book and found a beautiful color drawing of princely Nekozawa and Kirimi with their "pets."
In any case, since this volume is concerned with various characters' introspection, there's not a lot to laugh at. I originally stuck with Ouran because it was so unpredictably funny. So, I'm hoping that either Hatori has decided to wind up the series (because I could stand another volume or two of 'seriousness' just to get closure on the saga) or she put in a volume of serious before going back to the funny. I didn't enjoy this one much, but then, my favorite parts are always the parts where Tamaki is getting teased by Kyoya and the twins, and since they were all apart for this one...well...you see what I mean.

Love it,
This review is from: Ouran High School Host Club, Vol. 12 (Paperback)
As expected, Hatori Bisco-sensei delivers the good stuff! I love the humor--so many running jokes that just snowball as you go along. Lots of fun! Host Club definitely makes it on my top manga/manwa list, right up there with Fruit's Basket. Genius. The only con of the series is the timeline of release: what agony to wait half a year to read the next installation... I have to go back and reread the previous three or four manga before advancing to the new release each time they come out so I can make sure I'm following all the nuances (and running gags). Five stars sensei! Thank you for creating such an awesome story. Yay!
