About the Author

Bisco Hatori made her manga debut with Isshun kan no Romance (A Moment of Romance) in LaLa DX magazine. The comedy Ouran High School Host Club is her breakout hit. When she's stuck thinking up characters' names, she gets inspired by loud, upbeat music (her radio is set to NACK5 FM). She enjoys reading all kinds of manga, but she's especially fond of the sci-fi drama Please Save My Earth and Slam Dunk, a basketball classic.

Wow, we actually see some of our favorite characters developing and growing up a bit. Thanks to the forthright Mei, who pulls no punches when dealing with Haruhi, Haruhi comes to some introspection that broadens her mind and allows her to deal (mostly in an adult, calm manner) with her feelings for Tamaki. Tamaki himself morphs a bit from "clueless idiot king" to quiet and wise - but only a bit, because he wouldn't be Tamaki otherwise! Hikaru is unpleasant and out of character in this, enough that I drop an entire star. By this point Kaoru seems to be relegated to supporting character status - he barely has more lines than Mori.

Wretchedly lacking in Nekozawa (even in the short "supporting character" sections at the beginning of each chapter), this volume is otherwise pretty good. A good balance of funny and feeling. There is a gorgeous guest drawing of Princely Nekozawa and Dark Nekozawa together, which took my thoughts down a dark path :-) but...the book is good; I'm eagerly waiting for the next volume.

Once Hikaru confesses his feelings to Haruhi during the class trip, he tells her to take her time and bolts from her presence. Tamaki shows up unexpectedly, concerned for his welfare, and Hikaru informs him of what he has done, adding may the best man win. Everyone is invited to the Hitachin family manor for an end of the year party. Will things come to a head there?

Haruhi comes to the party with Mei. She is still amazed at Hikaru's confession, particularly that she never saw it coming. A disgusted Mei tells her to shut up, she finds her "cheesey blushing maiden in love" line annoying. Mei tells her that Hikaru is waiting for Haruhi on the balcony. Time to give him her response.

When Hikaru confronts Tamaki with the result of his talk with Haruhi, he assures him that he hasn't given up. Meanwhile, Tamaki is wrestling with his own demons, caught between his misguided sense of family and his feelings for Haruhi.

Tamaki's family life has never been easy, born as he was on the wrong side of the blanket, an error that was no fault of his but which has haunted him all his life. His paternal grandmother has never accepted him, nor permitted him to step inside the main Suoh mansion, relegating him to the second mansion. And yet Tamaki remains a very sweet, very caring young man.

He agrees to make a New Year's shrine visit with the other members of the Host Club The twins challenge Tamaki and the others to a bet--whoever finds the items that Haruhi likes best from the nearby knick-knack shops win. The time limit is one hour, the dollar amount no more than $10, a budget appropriate for commoners. As Haruhi approaches, the members all scatter, intent on winning the bet.

By now, the triangle is apparent to everyone but Haruhi and Tamaki.

As we've been seeing, the spotlight becomes ever more focused on these three and dimmer on all of our supporting characters whom we've also come to love. Though there are quite a few more volumes left, we can tell the end is near.

Unfortunately, though Haruhi does need the help, Hatori has introduced a female character that dotes quite heavily on Tamaki. We can tell Haruhi is beginning to feel hurt and perhaps a bit jealous.

Although Hikaru has intends to confess to Haruhi, she still isn't quite ready to understand the whole situation, which sort of makes for a frustrating AND adorable situation between all of them.

Still things are kept light and happy. Hikaru, though slightly frustrated by his feelings, still jokes with his twin brother, unfortunately for the rest of the gang, but fortunately for us. Tamaki is still rather silly, and Haruhi hasn't changed much. She is still quite adorable.

Definitely recommend this volume.

A lot happens in volume 14 in terms of plot and character development. Mei bluntly tells Haruhi some things that make Haruhi think about herself and how her thoughtlessness hurts others. Tamaki has a few revelations of his own in regard to his feelings for Haruhi. Hikaru was seriously cut short in this volume. A new character is introduced. The new character seems to have some ulterior motives. Hatori said at the end of the volume that she didn't like where the chapter ended, but she had reached her page limit. If she had just (1) expanded on the scene between Hikaru and Haruhi and (2) added a scene between Mai and Kaoru (who seem to have some interest in each other i think)... then this would not have been a problem. I hate where this volume ended, especially since it will be awhile before the next volume comes out.

The Ouran High school Host Club series is just outstanding!! I would recomend reading the whole series first, then watching the anime. But this book is just so amazing! In fact when i first started to get into anime i knew right from the start that i wanted to do this type of work for a living! I love these types of series and i think everyone should at least try to read it then watch the anime!

anyone who has seen the show, well you don't know what you are missing, the show only covers the first 8 or so volumes and it gets a lot more interesting from that point on. If you loved the anime you owe it to yourself to read the real thing
