Editorial Reviews

Review

"[T]he writing is clear and reveals that it is well researched, making the content credible and sensible, with a balance of both idealism and reality. Codevilla’s expertise in international relations shows in his attention to detail and sound logic. He handles controversial topics calmly and methodically. To Make and Keep Peace equips peace-hungry people with the motivation from and wisdom of history." —Melissa Wuske, Foreword Reviews

Thank you for fighting the fight exposing how "The Department of Homeland Security has used its intelligence 'fusion center' to compile ominously worded dossiers against such groups as 'pro-lifers' and such 'antigovernment activist' as 'homeschoolers' and 'gun owners'.......DHS....conducts its "practice runs" against mockups of these groups." When reading this, a large pit developed in my stomach as I was reminded of my heritage and how we lost family members in the Netherlands because they defended the Jew's right to life against a man who said they were "antigovernment." I am stunned to learn that "groups" that normally foster a respect for life and a desire to teach the next generation critical thinking are considered antigovernment activists, but I guess that is the point, no critical thinkers are wanted. March on Codevilla!

An indispensable reformulation of US foreign policy based upon its Founding principles. This book should be read across the aisle – in fact, it should be mandatory reading by every member of Congress. Whoever is running for president should make Codevilla’s book his or her foreign policy platform. This author wrote one of the most brilliant books on the subject of War since Clausewitz; now this companion volume on Peace is equally essential to sane thinking about our role in the world.

Dr Codevilla, an emeritus professor of history, certainly knows much more about American politics and political history than I ever will. I first read his "The Ruling Class", and thought I more or less understood. But this current book is basically an extention of the first one I read, though this time with dizzyingly more detail.

In short, the book describes all the mistakes and (mostly) ambiguities that our political leaders have made up till now. He blasts them all, Republican and Democrat, though the fact that he favors conservatives certainly shines through.

It's also apparent that many of our "leaders" are certainly duplicitous, if not downright criminal.

It's hard to remember all of the author's details, but this book is also very much worth reading!
