First of all let me say that I could not agree more with the person who wrote that this album should be purchased because of the great "Hanover Street" tune. It is a masterpiece in itself and only a true filmscore fan would single this one out of the lot, because this score captures all the good things John Barry has been known for. It has a strong and yet subtle melody with powerful strings and a huge orchestration of a music genious. It always reminds me of the time when I (and I am sure all of you) used to think about the future with a loved one at your side on a bright summer day.
The rest is quite good as well. Not at all that bad as some people have stated before. Maybe it is not the top notch we are used to when we hear John Williams
- but this does not mean a thing to me honestly. I like this album for the richness and the scores that are on it - and believe me when I say that all the best stuff is right here.
So, buy the album, you won't regret it. Buy it and listen to "Hanover Street" when you open your windows on a clear day and the wind browses through your hair.

I bought the disk because I love the romantic music of John Barry. However, after listening to it, I was annoyed at the poor production values. Instead of soaring romantic themes, I heard uneven playing, with a strong emphasis on the beat similar to the amateurs who play in our local high school orchestra. You could imagine the conductor saying: one two three four. To make things worse, there were some sour notes.
In short, if you know nothing about music, and enjoy movie soundtracts, you'll like this. However, if your ability to enjoy music is the level of the average high school musician, try another record.

This is perhaps the worst CD I have ever purchased. The conducting is atrocious and on some tracks the instruments actually sound of tune.

Consider other full length John Barry soundtracks instead.

out of africa is directed by John Barry, this is the kind of music I grew up listening to and thoughly have enjoyed it and will continue to as the music out on the streets now has nothing to compare to this kind.

The Prague PH falls down badly on the only 2 tracks I was interested in. The Title tracks from both Out of Africa and Dances With Wolves suffer horribly.

No soaring here.
