Secret Longings,
By A Customer
This review is from: Out of the Blue (Mass Market Paperback)
Katherine Deauxville has a very special way of touching the soul of every woman, and her contemporary romance novels always reflect this unique ability. OUT OF THE BLUE is no exception. It addresses the secret fantasy all women share; the desire we all have to find a true soul mate, who will get to know and appreciate us from the inside out - sexually, emotionally and for our person-hood and abilities. The hero in this unusual story, with its science fiction flare, IS this man. He not only understands every aspect of the heroine's womanhood, he readily OWNS their relationship, and is delighted to take the love of his life home to mother - in spite of the fact that 'mother' is on another planet! Loaded with action and excitement, well researched facts (Another Katherine Deauxville trademark) and just plain fun, you will adore taking the book along in your purse, to read at lunch and on your breaks at work, or just curling up and enjoying it on a cozy weekend afternoon. The heroine is strong and sticks to her guns. The hero is well worth her effort. The love is sweet and satisfying. This book is pure enjoyment!

This needs to be a movie(...),
This review is from: Out of the Blue (Mass Market Paperback)
I had a Katherine Deauxville weekend and read three great novel. This one, her Last Male Virgin and I was lucky enough to get a mint perfect copy of Entraptured (Figured these are going to start going for high prices on the collectors market!). And it shows the wonderful range of the marvellous writer. She is AMAZING.The books are sheer genious. So funny, so sexy. I read Deaxville back when she was the Queen of Medivals with books like Daggers of Gold and Crystal Heart, and I was exhausted after one of them, because she pulled you through so many emotions. It is just unbelieveable, one that writes so marvelous middle age sagas, can turn around and create this wacky ones. Applause!(...) More Katherine!(...)Please(...)

Funny Sci-Fi Romance Novel,
By
This review is from: Out of the Blue (Mass Market Paperback)
I normally do not read fiction (not even science-fiction), and I NEVER read romance novels. Yet I THOROUGHLY enjoyed "Out of the Blue!" It is also rare for me to finish a book of this size in only two days. I only put it down when my one good eye couldn't handle it any longer -- then got back to it at the next opportunity. The clever dialogue, the humor, the plot twists, the avoidance of crude language, and the discrete handling of the romance portions, together with the frequent references to popular names, places and events (and the "inside jokes" of some character names) all coordinated to make this book a pleasure to read. A movie and a sequel are naturals! (By Fred "Crash" Blechman, author of over 800 magazine articles and seven books about electronics and flying.)

A fun read,

OK I'll admitt I bought this book at the grocery story looking for a toss off read to unwind after an extra bad day at work. I was pleasantly surprized. This book was fun. It's not great Art, but it was great entertainment, which is much more useful. Ms. Deauxville pokes gentle fun at everyone from the lunitic UFO fringe to the Trump clone super rich NYC royalty. Even her hero and heroine are a humorous twist on the spunky overworked/underloved working girl and to-good-to-be-true completely-in-control mystery hunk of so many strait and para-normal romances. If you like your Romance tounge in cheek with a garnish of SF/Fantasy don't pass this book up!

You know it is good when an "official" publication reviewer says it is no good.Obviously someone who knows nothing of what the average book reader likes, because otherwise they would of known this book would be a hit. A fabulous read that is hard to put down!! A must for any reader of good fiction that combines, SF, romance,a little bit of mystery and a whole lot of fun! I definately reccomend!!!

wacky, outrageous, and entertaining,
This review is from: Out of the Blue (Mass Market Paperback)
Insanity is Maryellen Caswell's first reaction to the male voice suddenly speaking to her inside her brain in what should have been an incoherent foreign language. Her sister's more plausible answer is Manhattan. However, the voice co-occupying her head belongs to a stunned Sub-Commander Ur Targon. He knows something went wrong, probably sabotage, when he landed inside a live female rather than a dying specimen as directed by the standing operating procedure.Ur believes that an anti-government incident on Styrex Three will happen, but has no idea why this remote orb the locals call Earth is the target. His first order of business is to escape his current host who is driving him crazy. However, the proximity between the two of them makes them even loonier as they begin to fall in love. However, can a body hopping alien and a grounded third rock from the sun local form a relationship outside her head? Ponder The Man with Two Brains merging with the Men In Black inside a romance to understand Katherine Deauxville's wacky, outrageous, and entertaining tale. The story line is amusing due to the witty dialogue between the charming lead characters as if Steve Martin landed inside the head of Sigourney Weaver. This novel comes OUT OF THE BLUE, but fans of jocular science fiction romance that satirizes the convergence of the two genres will wan to learn if Ur is a hunk or not? Harriet Klausner

Makes me almost want to get kiddnapped by aliens!,

When Maryellen woke up in the morning, it should have been another routine day for the workaholic graphic artist. Instead, Sub-commander Targon made his presence known as a disembodied voice coming from inside her. This turns out to be just the beginning of Maryellen's life changing experiences.Ur Targon is certain that his cohorts placed him into Marellens' body as a practical joke; but he's not laughing. On a top secret, urgent mission to save the US President, Targon needs a body of his own. From cab accidents with police cars to group therapy in pyramids (with Trekies and Star Wars fans) OUT OF THE BLUE has a little bit of everything. Katherine Deauxville hardly gives the reader time to recover from one shocker (that has you groaning in mortification) before she makes you laugh out loud again. I especially liked the results of going hunting for an appropriate body. Gads, that was a hoot! (Am I tempting you to read the book yet?) While I greatly enjoyed this story, I had some issues with several things. Maryellen's sister Felicia drove me nuts! I think she was very sweet at the same time but it was like she never listened to her sister. Rather than noticing typographical errors etc, I noticed a couple of inconsistencies with Maryellen herself (was she a virgin or not? Sorry, but this really confused me!). I also thought Maryellen and Felicia were a little pretentious. As I've never read a book by Ms Deauxville before, I don't know if it is just the characters, or her writing style. Despite how this paragraph might sound, I did like Maryellen. She was resourceful, even if she was out of her league dealing with Targon. I do like the way Ms Deauxville alternates between the primary characters, the secondary characters Wolf Madder from the FFI, and then the therapy group. It gave the story a feeling of knowing what is going on for all three parties at the same time without overloading the reader. I thought this was really well done. While Targon is certainly overbearing and a pain in Maryellen's life, he is a hoot! He has the capability of taking a semi solid form only for short periods of time. During this time he glows kind of like a thousand watt light-bulb, which is a problem in it's own. He has a "guide book" of Earth culture that adds to the humor; "invents" a great drink in champagne and orange juice - which has funny results. And lastly, I think the body he ends up finding actually matched his personality in a way! As this is a romance, the characters are intimate, but the scenes are insinuated rather than graphically written out. (Which I can respect.) All in all, OUT OF THE BLUE is outrageously funny and if you have the chance to read the story, it's a great contemporary romance that I would recommend.

Could've Been Great,
By Eileen Collins (Bolingbrook, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Out of the Blue (Mass Market Paperback)
I recently finished a novel called Falling for April which had me bored to tears during the entire first half. When I'd finished it, I picked up Out of the Blue and read like crazy until the second half when the story spiralled wildly out of control - and into inanity. The story is nuts to begin with but if you've managed to suspend your disbelief sufficiently to even start the book, you'll be [pulled] in and propelled forward without a chance in hell of getting your fingers to release the book. This author certainly knows how to move a story forward but she needs to move it forward with a little more control. Secondary characters without much appeal begin to dominate the story to the extent that you lose patience and start skimming and skipping ahead. Then, the end, the climactic love scene you've been waiting for...well, it seemed pretty anticlimactic. This was far better than Falling for April and there are a lot of laughs in the first half. Maryellen and Targon are funny and strike sparks off each other (literally!) but the story comes unglued eventually. The laughs in the first half probably make this worth a try but, gee, this could have been great.

Call me a sour-faced grump.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Out of the Blue (Mass Market Paperback)
One reviewer said I would like this book unless I was a sour-faced grump. I never knew I was a sour-faced grump until now.I began reading the book with high expectations, because I love sci-fi romances. The plot was intriguing, and the story got off to a good start. 2 stars for that alone. But as in the one other K. Deauxville book I have read, I quickly lost interest and skimmed through to the end. The plot got too confused, and I didn't care enough by then to stay with it. Sorry, but there it is. |
