I have just recently bought The Sky Kings Out of the blue cd andhave been playing it over and over ever since. Why it was never released before is beyond me. It truly is a great album. If you like Poco and the Eagles then this cd is for you. You will not be disappointed. There are loads of great songs and every one on the cd is good.I cant fault it.The bonus is that you get 24 tracks so there are loads of songs to enjoy.Buy this cd it is a gem for any country rock fan.

Out of the Clear Blue of the Western Sky Comes -- a Real Gem,

I bought this exceptionally well-recorded Rhino CD around 2001, fell in love with it then, and filed it away with too many others - until today. This recording is so darn good! Are you a fan of melodious country rock? If you like Poco at their peak, Chris Hillman's Desert Rose Band (e.g., A Dozen Roses: Greatest Hits), Firefall, early-to-mid Eagles, or Vince Gill, then you will love this recording. The vocals and harmonies are powerful and uplifting, as are the pedal steel, twangy guitar, and great rhythms.
The Sky Kings are/were: John Cowan (New Grass Revival), Rusty Young (Poco), and Bill Lloyd (songwriter, session guitarist). Additional musicians include Leon Russell, Sam Bush, Al Kooper, and Kenny Aronoff, among many others. I agree another reviewer -- why the first 10 songs weren't originally released by Warner Bros. back in 1996 is hard to grasp. Throw in tracks 11-24 which are equally as good (or better) and you have 2 dozen polished gems. Pick it up Used and New -- but you sure can't have my copy!

This CD is a must buy if you have ever followed Country Rock. I can't believe this was never promoted...Fantastic vocals and song writing...What a loss for the Music Industry and what a gain for others who find this!!

"Truly Great Album?" I think not.,

I would say, "if you're a fan of Blo-Dry-Country music which is derivative of the worst of the Eagles or latter-day Poco, then this is the CD for you." But why waste your money on this absurdly over-priced item when you can tune in to the country station and hear 100 songs, equally devoid of inspiration and originality?
If you're looking for some lost treasures from Rusty Young, wake up! There aren't any. |
