5.0 out of 5 stars A Down To Earth Kind Of Guy Writing About The Incredible., July 27, 2000
This review is from: Out-of-Body Experiences: How to Have Them and What to Expect (Paperback)
I have read various books on "Out of Body Experiences" and how to manuals for many years, but few can match this books ability to make the incredible understandable in down to earth style and language. The author comes across very clearly as a regular kind of person, like the rest of us. His writing style makes the unusual an easy read. He shares his own first hand knowledge and experience, not re-cooked information from other books. This is the real thing, I have read too many books about books, or books about others ideas and experiences that this first hand account of these realities is a wonderful breath of fresh air for me. His techniques of how to attain an OBE have suggestions that I have never seen anywhere else. He appears to be a very practical kind of person with his feet firmly on the ground but able to see beyond the sky. If your looking for an OBE book, this is the one you want. I have had a couple of unplanned OBE's and they are as real as real can be, but to do it by the power of your own will is the trick. Once you have had your own OBE there is no question as to this being a reality. Once you have had one you will easily be able to tell the difference between lucid dreams and OBE's, they are distinctly different. I had two unplanned OBE's, but I want to be able to have OBE's at will. This is what I bought this book for. I am just starting with his suggestions on how to consciously transition into an out of body experience, it takes work, but I believe this book has the best and most varied information about many different techniques which can work for most people. I am pleased that this book has a total lack of "New Age" dogma, a welcome change. After reading this book it is obvious that this guy loves science and has that kind of mind, but yet he shows you things that our science is just now scratching the surface on, things that our culture has hardly begun to understand. I AM Chris

5.0 out of 5 stars essential OOBE book, June 20, 2002
This review is from: Out-of-Body Experiences: How to Have Them and What to Expect (Paperback)
Here is a person who is interested in sharing how he accomplished OOBE in a practical and down to earth manner where everybody can understand. His main focus is to teach others how to do it not to make money. This book was on the web before it was even published!!!

He talks about his experiences in short stories which is easily digested and with each chapter he has exercises that you can do to have OOBE. He writes not only how to have OOBE but as the title of the book implies "what to expect" when you do have them so you will be prepared and not totally off guard.

For example, he talks about the silver cord and how things are a little different in the astral than in the physical. The last chapter of the book has a detailed method of getting out of the body.

However, I wish he wrote about some of the struggles that he had and how long it took for him to have some of his OOBE. I think it is important to have people understand that for most people it will take time and effort and dedication. And by reading about some of his failures, readers won't be too discoruaged when they don't have OOBE as soon as they want. Instead they will say, "Hey, he had difficulties too and still accomplished OOBE. I'm like him and if he did it, I can do it too!"

Again, I would highly recommend this book for anybody who is interested in having OOBE. It is easy to understand and doesn't have the esoteric "mumbo jumbo" that are found in some of the other books.

As always, there are what is considered 'essential books' in any subject matter. I feel that this book ranks with the essential books in the field of OOBE. Some of the other essential books, in my opinion are, Journey Out of the Body by Robert Monroe, Adventures Out of the Body by William Buhlman, Astral Dynamics by Robert Bruce and Rick Stack's book(I can't remember the title). There are more but these are from more recent times and may be easier to understand and read than some of the older books.

It's important to have good books to read(this is one of them) so that your subconscious is saturated with the subject so that it knows that you are serious about having OOBEs. Good luck in having OOBEs and remember not to get discouraged and keep at it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Personal experience is best, February 17, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Out-of-Body Experiences: How to Have Them and What to Expect (Paperback)
This is the book that really started me down the path that my life currently appears to be taking - I owe the author a debt of gratitude.

Peterson explains his experiences with OOB states (and other interesting effects on his life) in a very straightforward manner. No jargon to wade through, no assumptions to be swallowed (other than "gee it'd be cool to wander around outside my body"), and no apparent agenda other than a clear desire to let people know what he's figured out about the subject.

Some books tend to leap into esoteric explanations of (as an arbitrary example) "the seven spheres of astral existence" or the like, without much of a solid attempt to back up their assertions. A "believe me, because I know lots" attitude. Peterson's book instead carefully walks you through his own experiences, allowing the reader to see how he figured out some things, and how others still don't make sense. In other words, it sounds just like how you'd expect an honest guy trying to report some totally weird experiences would sound.

Everything he writes about in the book comes from his reported personal experience. When dealing with a subject as unconventional as OOBs, it really helps to be shown a clear picture of the exact process the author went through, from first experience, through explorations, side effects, up to the point where it's become enough a part of the author's life to begin sharing what he knows. And basically that's what we get here, along with quite a lot of specific techniques for skewing the scales in favor of getting some results of your own.

Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent OBE book, January 2, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Out-of-Body Experiences: How to Have Them and What to Expect (Paperback)
Sharply contrasting with tons of other OBE books out there, this one is probably the easiest to follow. I enjoyed the diary entries and the bits about clairovoyance and so on. I've found the exercises to be highly effective. So effective that I've actually experienced some extremely odd happenings since reading this book, so strange it all seems a bit too much (no joke). So this is, undoubtedly, as necessity and the methods DO WORK. A must buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars You'll find what others astral books can't give to you, September 10, 2004
This review is from: Out-of-Body Experiences: How to Have Them and What to Expect (Paperback)
This is one of my favourites astral books. Not only contains the techniques to have OBE, but also : the differences between OBE and lucid dream - clairvoyance; astral body and physical body; stuck with your physical body; return from OBE with your astral head at your physical feet;conscious during OBE, astral sight and physic sight; can't we teleport when OBE to another place just like other books wrote ? The author wrote his own experience from his first OBE. He didn't write about another planes, the scenery, dweller. For me, it's like Slyvan Muldoon book, The Projection of The Astral Body. Honest and easy to follow.

5.0 out of 5 stars A down-to-earth approach to O.B.E., July 22, 2003
By
"mc321" (West Hartford, CT United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Out-of-Body Experiences: How to Have Them and What to Expect (Paperback)
This book is great for people who want to experience O.B.E. In fact, its essential for beginners. I like the approach that Peterson uses. He starts off from his view of life before astral-projection from when he was even a child. Why is this relevant? Because it helps to understand that *anyone* can experience O.B.E. if they have the patientience and motivation. I'm lucky & grateful to say that all my life, since i was a child, i have had O.B.E. without even trying. But as i got older my O.B.E.'s were much less frequent. Why?.. I'm not sure, i guess "reality" pulled be away. I have always had a spirtual self inside me but it took awhile for me to have the confidence in myself to come out and explore it deeper w/out feeling weird about doing it.

This book has it all. Peterson builds off of other books that he has read about Astral-Projection / O.B.E.'s which is a great help because it fills in the gaps that leave you questioning when you read other similar books. This book is a mix of "Soul Traveler" by Albert Taylor and the Monroe books. Both i highly recomend reading (i actually have yet to read the Monroe books). Between each chapter, Peterson gives exercises for performing O.B.E. The exercises get harder as your progress further into the book.

I cannot stress that you must be patient. You must be motivated. It will happen, and most of the time fear and doubt are what stop you but with proper guidance (eg. this book) you will get there and reach a whole new realm (literally) of understanding. Life, as you know it before O.B.E., will reach a whole new exciting level beyond your wildest dreams. Not only that, you have the opportunity to find answers to questions. See your Spirit Guides/Guardian Angels. Go anywhere, and i mean anywhere, and not just imagine being there but being there as if you were physically there.

Being a Computer Science major, I was especially drawn to this book because Peterson was also a programmer. This meant we viewed things in a similar manner. Both scientifically and logically. I would always try to find scientific reason for things that happen. Everyone should too. But as Peterson progressed in his experiences and found that he couldn't explain them scientifically, he was still able to conjure up logical reasons. To me, it was like living my life w/out anyone else understanding my thoughts, questions, and desires of the higher understanding then i read this book and i see so much parallelism.

This book is great for even the more skeptic believer.

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay...., February 18, 2007
This review is from: Out-of-Body Experiences: How to Have Them and What to Expect (Paperback)
This is an interesting book to read, BUT, Robert Monroe's books, especially the first (Journeys Out Of the Body) and third (Ultimate Journey) are better, in my opinion -- especially if you are looking for a method.
Robert Monroe had more, deeper, and better-understood OOBE's. Peterson definitely got out there, but his insights were not as good. I think some of his interpretations may be just plain erroneous. Also, Peterson often had a lot of trouble getting out. It's clear from his list of exercises for developing consciousness and getting OOB that he has a particular mindset or mental type which is different from Monroe's (and from mine). It doesn't have to be that hard to "get out," so Peterson is probably experiencing doubts, fears, ambivalence. Or maybe he has a different astral er, "constitution"?
That said, there are different flavors of ice cream for a reason, and for some people Peterson might be just the right one. I did like the way he included material about working, riding the bus to work, etc. which brought the whole body of material "down to earth", made it more believable, and showed the reader how Peterson fit into the everyday world.

5.0 out of 5 stars It worked for me..., December 31, 2006

This review is from: Out-of-Body Experiences: How to Have Them and What to Expect (Paperback)
I became interested when my brother had a spontaneous OOBE. If he could do it, I could do it, right? So I did my homework. Read Monroe's stuff and a few others.

THIS book absolutely was the key. I was successful in developing a discipline for consistent OOBEs. NB: It wasn't easy for me. It took a lot of practice, a lot of experimenting, and a lot of patience.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Essential Diary, August 20, 2003
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Out-of-Body Experiences: How to Have Them and What to Expect (Paperback)
This book is an essential for people who are interested in the paranormal OBEs. Its essential because it has several exercises contained within written in a manner that anoyone could grasp. It most certainly is nowhere near as complicated and convouloted as Astral Dynamics. It contains a diary of the author's interesting OBE experiences. I love the story about his uncle.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Absolutely top of the line", January 8, 2000

This review is from: Out-of-Body Experiences: How to Have Them and What to Expect (Paperback)
Most books of this type cover a lot of history, anecdotal information, and, while interesting, don't tell you enough about how to actually accomplish it. Bob Peterson tells you how. He has examined the process closely and if you follow his directions you will be able to do it.
