Out the Box,
By godslady (Dallas, TX USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Out the Box (Audio CD)
This CD Set is phenomenol. I enjoyed it so much. Tonex sings so many different types of music. He is a multi-talented artist. Based on the CD, I believe that Tonex is probably more enjoyable in a live concert. I have been tremendously blessed by the music from this CD. I originally didn't think that I would care for his music. I purchased this album specifically for the songs "Lord, Make Me Over" and "To Know You Lord". But, by the time I finished listening to the entire CD Set, I began to enjoy some of his other songs such as "Work on Me", which has a very nice gospel flavor to it, and the game song. The game song is where he takes music from a game show and adds lyrics about how we need to stop playing games as believers. I think that song speaks for the creative genius that Tonex is. I realize now that it is obvious that Tonex's goal is to be a Christian Contemporary Performer. Once I began to look at him from that perspective, and not the perspective of a gospel artist, I was able to appreciate his music. I believe that Tonex has the ability to reach young people that the traditional church setting would never reach. If Tonex were to ever come to Dallas and do a concert, I would definitely attend it. The organization of the CD is wonderful. Tonex is certainly a young, anointed man of God, who will definitely touch many lives for Kingdom purposes.

Above all else, IT MINISTERS!!,
By Cleve 2 Christ (New York) - See all my reviews

You don't really need any of these reviews, especially mine.
Surf the net and listen to clips of the songs and see if they speaks to your spirit. If your spirit bears witness to the message on the album, then buy it...and I'm sure it will!! O2 was my first Tonex album and that one really spoke to my spirit. So I was really looking forward to this one. It came in the mail and by the time I got home, my wife had already listened to it. She didn't like...but then she didn't like O2 at first, either. I was hooked from the beginning. I could see myself in that arena at that concert and the anointing was just as tangible as if I actually had been there. People can say what they want about this album and about Tonex himself. But I'm telling you, this brother is doing the work of the Lord. His music is fresh and alive with the spirit of God. So what if he took a riff or a sample from a 'secular' song. That sample is what may catch some lost soul's attention when they hear this music thumpin' from somebody's ride coming down the block! I'm so tired of saints beating up on saints! Beat up on the devil!! That's what Tonex is doing and doing well with this album. I declare and decree that this album is going to call MANY, MANY young soldiers back into the Lord's camp and catapult Tonex to another level and a wider audience...You wait and see!

Tonex is awesome! Luv him or hate him,
By Henry Cooper ""Still One Me"" (Atlanta, GA) - See all my reviews

I'd became an instant fan to Tonex since I purchased this album "Out the Box". I haven't seen the movie of it yet. But I believe it'll be good. First of all don't get the man wrong 'cuz he's trying to God and the Lord Jesus Christ on his records. Ya'll should stop dictating him of being unholy or worldly to God. He's not a worldly believer or a secular artist like R. Kelly and all of them. He's just a believer in the name of Jesus. I can't give it away 'cuz he's hateful and unholy. I'ma keep it 'cuz it takes a new journey to resurrect on where u are now. Thank God for this record that Tonex put out I hear it won him 6 Stellar Awards nominations which I watch today which is off da chain. I can compare him to the gospel side of Prince, D'Angelo, Michael Jackson, a lil Justin Timberlake, Deitrick Haddon, Usher, Babyface, just to name others. I would definitely would love to hear more from him and definitely get all of his album. GOD PRAISE YOU TONEX AND KEEP IT UP. NO MATTER WHAT PEOPLE SAY 'BOUT U BUT U KEEP DOING WHAT'S RIGHT JUST LONG AS U HAVE CHRIST IN YOUR LIFE. NEVER GIVE UP ON WHAT U DOING. JUST DO WHAT U HAVE 2 DO IT'S RIGHT. PRAISE THE LORD HALLEJUAH!!!
------------------------------------------------------------- 2-27-05 Favorite songs on the album are on Disc 1: The Trust Theory, Alive, Alive 2 (luv the beat w/ a rock feel to it), Work on Me, Taxi, Personal Jesus, To Know You Lord, Deliverance, and on Disc 2: Nureau Ink, Believer, Todos Junitos (feat. my girl Sheila E.), Since Jesus Came (feat. my man and mentor Kirk Franklin), Doesn't Really Matter and Thank Q. Others like Fundamentals and Endangered Species are ok but don't listen to 'em all the time. I would say congrats to my man and new favorite Tonex for putting out much work on this album. I hope he'll come out more mainstream on his next album as soon as possible. This 2-CD set is a blend of jazz, R&B, disco, latin, funk, rap, hip-hop, rock, pop mixed w/ the gospel sound of the Lord Jesus Christ.

His Annointing Requires Liberated Saints!!!,
By Mark Valentine Craig "Annointed" (Drexel Hill, PA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Out the Box (Audio CD)
Tonex has a very free spirit. Those who believe that he goes over board or does a little too much are those who are still living on the "STONE AGE!" This is a new generation with new demons and new blue prints. They way the enemy tempted the older saints is not the way he is tempting us today. He's coming harder and more powerful than ever before. It's time out for tradition or church as usual because you can rest assure that Satan is not rising up against us with fornication as usual, drugs as usual, homosexuality as usual, rebellion as usual, even hypocritical and judgemental as usual. We can't continue to fight the devil and his boys with their new strategies with our traditional tactics. Our praise needs to be free. If dressing a little outside the church satisfaction is what it takes to bring them in then let's do what we have to do to get the lost souls in and THEN once we have them home we can begin the healing process and start to impart to them what being saved is all about but they have get in the door first. By Any Means Necessary. And if we feel that someone is doing something inappropriate than we need to incourage whoever it may be to maybe do it a little differently not discourage them because WE FEEL it's wrong. We all have our ways of praising God. There is no where in the Bible that states HOW He want us to bless Him and praise Him...He just wants us to do it. Basically you have to have a radical praise to understand a radical praiser.(it takes one to know one) Also take into consideration what his past may have been. We don't know ALL that he had to overcome and there may still be strongholds on him that through his RIDICAL PRAISE are being broken off him so that he can be as free as possible. We "christians" need to learn not to point the finger or bad mouth everything that we don't understand. Everything that God may give someone is not for everyone to understand.(what God has for me it is for me) If you are a rdical saint with a radical praise, if you are ready to break out of tradition and tear down the walls of the church, if you are ready to experience a greater more powerful demension in the spirit realm, even if you are craving for a new way to worship the Lord...this CD is for you. (Tonex, keep on doing what you're doing because you do it well. Get all that God has for you. Continue to do everything you do for the Lord so He will get the glory in all that you do. Let the haters hate because "The Lord shall cause your enemies who rise up against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you in one way and flee before you in seven ways. The Lord shall command the blessing upon you in your storehouse and in all that you undertake. And He will bless you in the land which the Lord your God gives you." Deuteronomy 28:7&8 The best is yet to come...Your latter shall be greater than your past. God bless you all and be encouraged in the Lord. God Is Good and All Is Well.

Amazing,

I believe...pound for pound...that Tonex is one of the greatest artists (with an e accent) alive....period. With the musical talent reminiscent of Prince...the power of voice like Stokley from Mint Condition...and song writing that Killed Me Softly like young King David of the Psalms...I am inspired by him.
His Apostolic doctrine is a wine that is fermented a little..part of his growing process..but never has an artist captured the realm of spiritual music...I couldnt define him...he kept morphing...like Heaven...ever moving about...I met Tonex when few knew him at a show in Harrisburg Pa...and as a son of an accomplished record producer-- I was captivated immediately by his talent. My faith is renewed..because contrary to popular belief...Yah has retained the greatest talent...and the devil is clearly overtaken in the masterpiece known as 'Out of The Box"/ Yours in Christ Bro Nate Edmonds (...)

New Fan,
This review is from: Out the Box (Audio CD)
I wasnt a fan of Tonexz when I first heard god has not forgot but boy oh boy I ordered this CD and will be a fan for the rest of my life. My favorite songs are Alive (both) Track 3 and 4 and Games, and even god has not forgot live. Awesome CD, I wish though that people would stop being so critical of his delivery. Every generation is revealed a different revelation so you cannot except for the same old time way of doing things. This has sparked me and will be a small reason for where I am going in my life and reaching my purpose.

This man so anointed!!!!!,

I totally disagree with the first review of this CD. Tonex is a very anointed artist, and should really get the stars that he deserves for this project. Just because people might not like it doesn't make it garbage. I think that the entire Cd is awesome. Its one of those that you can put in and listen to the entire CD without skipping a single song. I think that your preference for this music would depend on your personal preference, but overall I think that this project is definitely worth buying.

A breakthrough Christian record!!!,
By
This review is from: Out the Box (Audio CD)
There needs to be a sixth star available that's reserved just for those records that really stand out from the rest! That's a bit cliche, but it's how I feel! "Out the Box" is truly revolutionary, and Tonex displays just how varied gospel music can be. The heavy anointing placed on Tonex is a prominent impression I pick up here. The "live" component of the CD really captures the intensity and worshipful atmosphere at the recording; "Alive 2" certainly shows how hard the audience was praising that night!
It's extremely difficult to highlight a few of my favorite tracks on Disc 1, but I'll try. "Alive" is an energetic song that tells the story of Jesus' death and resurrection alongside a horn sample of the Jackson 5; "Work On Me" has a big band sound with some cool choral elements; "The Children's Bread" is a rock-infused song whose lyrics are more deeply penetrating and honest than those of any other track on the CD; the "throwbacks" to "Real With U," "Personal Jesus," "Why?," and "Taxi" are brief but still very cool. Much of the first disc gives off more of a concert-vibe than anything else, especially with songs as outlandish as "Games," a take-off of the "Family Feud" theme song. In the end, Disc 1 is sure to get you hyped up! By contrast, Disc 2 is a bit more subdued, as it allows the listener to really worship, which isn't to say it isn't exciting! "Believer" is a fun, up-beat song that lets the Peculiar People really show their stuff! "Todos Juntos" is an intense revision to the 1996 song "I'll Praise Him," and is sung mostly in Spanish this time! "Your Word" and "The Spirit Realm" put the listener into a mode of worship. "Make Me Over" is a great song that lets us examine our lives for places of imperfection and sin. "Since Jesus Came" is a very exciting song featuring Kirk Franklin, and "Thank Q," one of my absolute favorites, is a great studio-produced song that employs very unique metering. "Out the Box" has a lot to offer listeners, but it might be a bit too much to take in in one listen. Give both CDs one complete listen, and you'll start to get a feel for the entire project. My only complaint is a small one, which is that Tonex purports as "The Truth" that the receiving of tongues is a prerequisite of salvation, rather than a gift from God. But that's it. This is undoubtedly my favorite release in the past two years (at least)! Tonex is a richly gifted man, from his ability to usher people into God's presence to his unbelievable singing! His style of music is breakthrough, and his lyrics are challenging and deeply penetrating. I guarantee that "Out the Box" will be a blessing! Way to go, Tonex; I thank God for your ministry!

Spiritually Rejuvenating For The Open Minded,
By
This review is from: Out the Box (Audio CD)
I was first introduced to Tonex by my very best friend while visiting my hometown of Chicago Illinois. He and I have made and experienced a lot of music together and we often talk and critique the music of today. I was blown away when I asked him what he thought of Tonex and his reply was that he didn't think Tonex's music was what he considered "good gospel music" and gave me not one but 2 Tonex CD's, "Pronounced To-Nay" and "02". Well I told my friend as I will state here, no matter what form GOD's word is presented in, it is still GOD's word and will not come back void. This CD is off the chain!!! Tonex is innovative, creative, spiritually uplifting, thought provoking, & challenging! And that voice!!! He's managed and promoted by Yolanda Adams, (check out the intro), he's joined on this cd by Kirk Franklin & Sheila E., he's friends with John P.Kee and even featured on Pastor Kee's cd, "Blessed By Association", (check out the song "I Am He". Keep in mind that as christian believers, we've been charged by GOD to spread the gospel thruout all nations. Tonex attempts to reach all who will listen in many forms of music on this cd. Gospel, R&B, Hip-Hop, Salsa,Traditional, Heavy Metal,(exquisitely done, I might add), and on the song "Games" in which he uses the "Family Feud" theme song to warn people to "get their spiritual houses in order", I guarantee you'll be blown away. I also like what he did with the "Taxi" theme song in which he says he and his wife fell in love while listening to this song. My favorite song is "Make Me Over Again", a song for all of us who fall down but want to get back up again, but I, my wife and daughters love this entire cd and are waiting for the DVD. There is definitely something for everyone on this cd. I must admit that I, like d88keyz, was a little thrown by Tonex's comment about speaking in tongues. As far as I know, it is not a must to speak in tongues as it is a GOD given gift and not everyone has the same gift(s), but Tonex definitely has the gift of singing. He does it so well, I think even the angels may be grooving to this cd. Check it out for yourself.
