5.0 out of 5 stars great surf!!
Forget the Turtles! Before they were so happy together,Mark Volman And Howard Kaylan really rocked! These are some of the greatest instumentals you'll ever hear.I heartily recommend this to anybody interested in real rock'n roll.

3.0 out of 5 stars Go home, little boy!
The Crossfires were an early incarnation of the Turtles, back when they were a surf group. A little over half the CD is surf instrumentals, with "Silver Bullet" and "Fiberglass Jungle" being great, and the rest being average. There are also some songs with lyrics, most of which aren't that impressive, with the most interesting being "One Potato Two Potato", which sounds...

4.0 out of 5 stars turtle surf tunes, August 6, 2010

This is the earliest songs from the turtles when they were the surf group the crossfires. It has some great songs on it like 'one potatoe, two potatoe" ( a california hit regional single) , and 'silver bullet' and some average tracks too. The sound quality varies on these tracks but overall they are worth owning. In fact the whole turtles catalog is worth owning. The boys were just beginning at this point and they would explode into action in 1965 with their first turtles album. This one was of course a complilation of early preturtles tracks, and you do get excellent guitar playing, and a few harmonies but not like what was to follow. If you aren't a fan of sixties surf music then you won't like this one but that type of music is pretty fun actually. This one though is for turtles fans who should grab it.

There are also some songs with lyrics, most of which aren't that impressive, with the most interesting being "One Potato Two Potato", which sounds like an early precursor to bubblegum music. There are even two Christmas songs, including the hilarious "Santa and the Sidewalk Surfer". This CD will probably only be of interest to surf music fans or Turtles fans (I am both).

A typical surf-group collection of songs.
If you want to know what Howard Kaylan and
Mark Volman did a couple years before the
Turtles came out, and you're a die-hard
Turtles fan...then this is the CD for you.
If not, save your money for the Turtles
greatest hits. I bought this for the song
"Santa and the Sidewalk Surfer"...a great
Xmas song I have on a Turtles Greatest Hits LP.
