5.0 out of 5 stars I Almost Died and this made me want to live., May 25, 2009
This review is from: Out-of-Control: A Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) - Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Workbook for Getting Control of Our Emotions and Emotion-Driven Behavior (Paperback)
I have been watching for this book to come out for years. I used it during my recovery from depression and a near death suicide attempt after my wife's death. I am now a recovering alcholic and I had many losses because of my drinking too. I was in Dr. Sheets class and she gave out copies of this book. You ought to read it even if you have read every other book like it. She has a way of saying things that really gets you to thinking. I deeply began to look at my life and the choices I made. I realized most of my problems came from the consecuences of my destructive coping behaviors. I read most of the book, did most of the worksheets, I began thinking about life diffrently and I decided to focus on living life instead of killing myself. I still think about emotional mind, rational mind, and wise mind and being Mindful and talking through the moment. I still sit down and do the Wise Mind worksheet to think through my problem and to decide how to deal with them. I hope you will read it. It might be what changes your life to. The whole class loved her. She is one of the nicest and caring people I have met and she is a great teacher.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great DBT work!, January 23, 2010

This review is from: Out-of-Control: A Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) - Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Workbook for Getting Control of Our Emotions and Emotion-Driven Behavior (Paperback)
I have used Dr. Sheets' "take" on DBT skills often with my own psychotherapy patients, and found her way of explaining things so clear and down-to-earth. I don't have to worry about my patients' having college-level reading skills to understand the workbook, and believe me, with dialectical behavior therapy, that is quite an accomplishment! I highly recommend this book for your own personal journey, or for your consideration if you are a mental health professional working with people whose behaviors are truly out-of-control.
