FALCO Rides once more....,
By Jamey Sadownick (Woodstock, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Out of the Dark (Audio CD)
This is Falco's final original recording before his death on Feb.6, 1998. Falco was a unique musical genius that successfully mixed English, German, Italian, rock, rap and pop into one tight package. The album begins with a political piece "No Time For Revolution", and then heads into the power ballad, one of Falco's finest, "Out Of The Dark" - very strong musically and lyrically, about his battle with drugs that would eventually help lead to his untimely death. The album is fun also! Dance hits like "Shake", and satirical songs like "EGOIST" really help capture the Falco essence. And of course, "Der Kommissar 2000", a hot update to Falco's original hit back in 1982. I highly highly recommend buying this album, as it is on it's way to Out Of Print status!

Not his best, but,

if you ever had any appreciation for any other Falco albums, this is a definite must-have for a number of reasons. First, obviously, sadly, Falco will no longer be making any more music (at least in this life), so any Falco fan needs to have his last will + testament, if you will. Second, the Falco fan will be happy to know that he left us a very powerful cd, not his best mind you, but a very good one nevertheless. In "Out of the Dark," one can feel Falco looking deep within himself. There is also the playful "Shake," which almost makes you feel as if you're back in the good ol' 80's. I feel that Falco was beating a dead horse with "Der Kommissar 2000," (how many versions of this song do we need?) but all things considered I guess it's nice to have one more version of it. "Egoist" and "No time for Revolution" are both very good songs. The others are sort of on the weak side (especially "Cyberlove" with its very cheap-sounding background). Good bye Falco...we miss you.

A final burst of light,

Some fireworks arch through the sky with a glowing trail, disappear, and then explode as they fall, with one final bang of glory. This CD does not match Falco's work from early in his career. Some of the tracks are unfortunate experiments. However, other tracks crackle and burn brightly. The title track is dramatic and moving. Hit Me is an intensely sensual Falco masterpiece, climaxing with his trademark, almost operatic arrangement dueling with the lead guitar. Fantastic! Unlike some of his later work, narcissism is at a minimum and his humor is active. Koks ist da, Cyberlove, Egotist, and Naked make me smile, even without understanding the German. Recommended for fans, but look elsewhere for your first Falco CD.

This is Falco's last album and that's why I bought it. It's not a bad album, not a sublime one either. My feeling is it's too much ecclectic for that. Falco sits in between his eighties grandeur with songs as 'Shake' and 'Hit Me' (this is Falco at his best imo) and a kind of techno based pop songs like 'Mutter' and der 'Kommissar 2000'. He wants to vision the millennium but comes over old-fashioned certainly in a song as 'Cyberlove'. His ballads or real songs are the better moments on this disc ('Out of the dark', 'Egoist'). 'Naked' his worst. I find it too heterogeneous to be a strong album but Falco always has his moments that makes it worth to buy his records.

Worth listening to,
This review is from: Out of the Dark (Audio CD)
You have a number of good songs on this but at the same time you have a few weak songs mixed into the bunch. I probably should've given this cd a 3 star review but I think I'll give it 4 because Out of the Dark is such a good song. That song seriously had the potential to be comeback material imo. Truth of the matter is I don't have a clue about Falco's fame in Austria and in other places. I kinda got the feeling that he was at a low point and he wasn't as popular as he once was. That could've all changed with Out of the Dark. Sadly it just wasn't meant to be.
Let me breakdown my favorite songs off this cd. I enjoy No Time for Revolution, Out of the Dark, Mutter Der Mann Dem Koks Ist Da, Hit Me, Naked, and Geld. Cyberlove is a bit of a mystery to me. I know this is going to sound like a backhanded compliment. Cyberlove can be considered a catchy song (imo anyway) and other times it can be a huge load of cheese. I think I'm sitting in a neutral spot. I'll consider it to be half catchy and half cheesy. I still stand by my opinion of the cd being worth listening to. The good points outweighs any weak or shaky spots. The cd might've been entirely different under the circumstances. You have to remember that Falco died before the release of the cd and I'm willing to bet his team finished it up the best way they could. They might've added the weak songs (weak imo anyway) because they sounded the most finished.

Falco displays an incredible amount of charisma, detail and style in this driving, upbeat, instrument packed album which has received far too little focus perhaps due to the European flair that is not always well received within the United States!! Nonetheless, those who love good music, and have an interest in life, culture, dance, and the German language (nice coloring to the beats!!!) will absolutely ADORE(!!!) this rendering by Austria's beloved Falco!!!!!!

A disc which contains some great songs like Ootd or Revolution, but also one or two weaker songs (cyberlove), but all in all a really good one...something very special four a country like austria, a land where you get to the top fast and fall down even faster

I got this on my trip to Germany...and I haven't put it down yet. That was six months ago!!!!! I love it. The lyrics are great, the musicality is top notch, and the music is superb. The man couldn't have left a greater legacy.
