Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Combining the feel-good vibes of a self-help manual with the self-castigating fervor of a born-again believer's confessional, this seemingly candid spiritual autobiography smacks of bland impersonality despite its stance of ruthless honesty. A psychiatrist and author of Love Is Letting Go of Fear , Jampolsky tells how he learned to go beyond his selfish, manipulative ego and surrender to love and God. A friend's sudden death, his own bitter divorce and drift toward alcoholism, an encounter with Mother Teresa and his work with AIDS patients were milestones on his quest. His familiar message, reinforced through prose poems and prayers, involves listening to one's inner voice, recognizing the holiness in each person, transforming romantic relationships into "holy relationships" and letting go of fearful, negative attitudes. From Library Journal

In this quasi-spiritual autobiography, Jampolsky shares childhood memories and his experiences in medical school, residency, and successful psychiatric practice--all undertaken with a determination to succeed despite his being overshadowed by fear and guilt. During the crisis following the dissolution of his marriage, his life was dramatically changed by a chance exposure to the esoteric New Age teaching know as "A Course in Miracles." He records a key turning point: "It was a monumental test for me; I had to choose whether to listen to the voice of my rational mind, . . . or to listen to that quiet, calm voice in my heart." Later he founded the Center for Attitudinal Healing. A blueprint for others hoping to find the light in which he basks, this book will appeal primarily to those already persuaded by the "California-style" inspirational approach.

5.0 out of 5 stars inspiring, mind opening, and heart felt. December 27, 1998
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
It was not only inspiring, but, it was written with such honesty. I learned so much from this book. It really taught me, what the "ego" mind is all about. Dr. Jampolsky, wrote this book, so that everyone could be aware, how the ego mind works. Clear and simple to understand. Highly recommend this book for anyone who is searching for his/her truth...

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Book I have ever read!!! September 9, 2000
Format:Paperback
This book is very easy reading!!! Praise the lord,Gerald was lead to write this book...this is all stuff, that i have known, yet was never able to communicate with others.I have often said if everyone followed the rules of life the world would be a better place...understand one another, love one another, forgive one another, why if ever one loved one another in hole ,there would be no need for forgiveness....This book is not easy to come by were i live, and i can't believe i have never heard of it before now,i just happen to come by it at the libarary. i feel this book goes hand and hand with the bible.,If ever there is a book worth reading ,this is,i know i'm just a little excited about it :)HEY! don't let the bible thing scare you away,it just helps me to understand what the bible is now saying,LOVE =PEACE,if u want peace in your life, here it is.i believe gerald shows even the ones that can't believe in God ,that just a change in thinking can make you a happy person !!!! YEAH!

5.0 out of 5 stars Deeply moving, well worth reading October 15, 2010

The editorial reviews above by Publishers Weekly and Library Journal don't do justice to Jerry Jampolsky's greatness of spirit in so candidly sharing his journey. His courage and faith in revealing the utterly dysfunctional legacy of his childhood that he carried beneath his facade as a successful psychiatrist help millions of us to face and heal the same in ourselves. And he gives us the most effective road map for that healing available, in my opinion as a student of A Course in Miracles.
For this reason, I give Jerry's autobiography 5 stars even though I wish his editor had been more assertive in asking him to replace his repetitive reiterations of Course principles with more of his potent personal stories that illustrate those principles much more enjoyably and cogently. I humbly read through the didactic parts because I know that the Course is so challenging and our egos so cunning that no amount of repetition is too much. But it was much more interesting and edifying to breeze through his personal stories.
I thank Jerry with all my heart for helping me to awaken with this book and with his others (Love is Letting Go of Fear, Goodbye to Guilt, and One Person Can Make a Difference), which I also highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eines der schoensten buecher ueberhaupt September 19, 1997
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
