Loss and triumph of faith,
By Gary Selikow (Great Kush) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Out of the Depths (Hardcover)
Set in 'enlightened' Germany of the mid- 19th century.
Minna , a religious girl from a rich Jewish family in the town of B. is married to the arrogant and frivolous Edward of a rich banking family. due to his total disdain for her way of life , she suffers much heartache. In this richly written novelette , Lehman traces their fortunes and Edward's journeys as far afield as Africa and Brazil , before love and faith triumph. This novelette reflects the bitterness and confusion that result from loss of faith and alienation from tradition. |
