5.0 out of 5 stars A National 'Treasure' Himself! April 8, 2010
Format:Audio CD
Mr. Reid is ONE Consumate Bassist and then some! This former William Patterson alumnus (12 years since he last taught there) plucks another home run with this fantastic collection of compositions augmented by the great Steve Allehe on piano. One excellent track after another. From beginnin to end -'Ebony'(written by pianist Allehe) and finishing up with the great Eddie Harris blast from the past-'Crying Blues' coupled with PLENTY of knockouts in between including 'Dona Maria' 'Glory' and impeccable Tadd Dameron chestnut,' If You Can See Me Now', the listener are in store for one big musical treat!!! Yesireeeeeeeeee NO letdowns here!!!

If you think piano trios are passe and boring-this one will get your listening ears 'out front' to 'dig' on over and over again!

A great new release for the new decade that shouldnt be overlooked!

BTW-saw the Rufus Reid Trio here in Indy last night March 7th 2010 @ the Ruth Lilly Performance Hall (Univ of Indianapolis). What a performance!!! Two wonderful sets of music magic Played most of his cd to the delight of the audience in attendence and he (Rufus and co.)also threw a great little gem in from the past -'The Meddler' dedicated to his son Michel. (this particular piece can also be found on Rufus' 'Live At the Kennedy Center' cd from a few years ago)

66 years young and still going strong....with keeping superb company over the years with the likes of Ricky Ford Kenny Burrell Nancy Wilson Art Farmer Eddie Harris Dexter Gordon Kirk Lightsey and countless others....what more needs to be said 'bout this terrific musical treasure of many means who keeps on keepin on!!!!!
