5.0 out of 5 stars GRO Rocks- This Album is Fantastic
Out of My Hands by Green River Ordinance is a great album from start to finish. I have had this album since February and enjoy listening to it as much now as when it was new. Their songs are fresh and relevant. The tunes are definitely the kind you'll find yourself singing in your head while doing other things. You should definitely buy the album in its entirety-- you...

I first heard these guys at a David Cook concert, and their music was pretty good and interesting. I actually liked their music much more than David Cook's. They seem to have a wide-appeal indie pop sound that I really like. After listening to the album, I immediately liked 4 songs... not bad i guess (out of 11 or 12 in total). I'm still listening to the album and the other songs may grow on me. I know every song on any given album can't be a home run, but for now I give an above average rating of 3/5.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Need For Skip, Only Repeat, April 1, 2009
This review is from: Out of My Hands (Audio CD)
If you love music that makes you move, Green River Ordinance is the band for you. These phenomenal five released their major-label debut, "Out of My Hands," on February 24, 2009 and these boys from Ft. Worth, Texas have found their sound overtaking iPods and car radios all over the country.
A year and a half of hard work ended in energetic guitar riffs, outstanding drum beats, and moving and relatable lyrics. The gentlemen responsible for such noise include lead vocalist and acoustic guitarist, Josh Jenkins, electric guitarists, Jamey Ice and Joshua Wilkerson, bassist, Geoff Ice, and drummer, Denton Hunker. "Outside" starts the album off strong with fun and upbeat guitars and a fast beat to get you dancing. Soon enough, you are singing along with the chorus of "Outside, outside looking inside/ In time you will find/ everything's easier on the other side," while throwing your hands up in the air and dancing along (while the people in the next car look on warily). The excitement and energy continues to build through the new single, "Come On" and into the title track, "Out of My Hands." Things slow down a little with Jenkins on piano as "On Your Own" begins with its emotional lyrics. The slow sound continues through the beginning of "Goodbye LA", but picks up at the chorus and you are crooning along to the lyrics once again. The excitement continues through tracks such as "Different (Anything At All)" and "Sleep It Off." "Last October" and "Getting Older" will stay with you long after your iPod's battery has run out. This album is not just all about hip gyration, however. "Learning" is sure to grab all romantics with the offer of being "the one you run to/ for the rest of your life." "Endlessly" finishes the album as the perfect modern love song. There is only one negative aspect to this album: that it ends all too soon. These guys will leave you thirsting for more.
In all, this album will have you hooked from the start and will refuse to let go. Be prepared for your music player to be on repeat for a while.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE this album!, June 9, 2010

I stumbled on this band through an Amazon recommendation, and I am SO glad I did. I find myself listening to the album over and over because it always seems to be what I'm in the mood for. The songs are great, just the right mix of rock and pop. They're not all fast, but all are upbeat and many of the tunes get stuck in my head. I have recommended this album to lots of friends and they all end up loving Green River Ordinance as much as I do!

5.0 out of 5 stars Goodbye LA, Hello World: Green River Ordinance Right on Track with "Out of My Hands", December 5, 2009
This review is from: Out of My Hands (Audio CD)
Hailing from the Lone Star State and playing all around the globe, Green River Ordinance has got to be the best band you've never heard of.

With absolutely amazing acoustics and an overall Collective Soul sound, these Texas musicians rock the waves from their first track to their final note in "Out of My Hands."

From Outside to Endlessly, these guys are the next big thing in music. Think Sister Hazel with a twist of Matchbox 20.

Speaking of Sister Hazel, GRO (as the band is known by their fans) recently played on the Rock Boat.

"It's a boat full of real music lovers," GRO lead singer Josh Jenkins told The Dallas Morning News. "We've experienced, since the boat, a lot of people coming to shows that had been [on the cruise]. These people tell their friends about you and offer up their homes. It's just a different level of fans."

A different level of fans for a different kind of band; and what a great band GRO is.

So what does Jenkins consider to be GRO's genre?

"We're definitely a pop-rock band," Jenkins said. "The 90's were a huge influence on us."

And what a great time period to be influenced (by some of the best musicians ever, at least in my opinion).

A question many ask the band, and one I have seen in both reviews as well as radio interviews, is "Why the name Green River Ordinance?"

To put it simply, the band really just thought the name was cool.

"That was just something that Jamey [Ice] and Geoff [Ice] had before I joined the band," Jenkins said. "It was on a sign in their garage that said 'Green River Ordinance Enforced.' It was just peculiar and odd, so it kinda stuck."

Green River Ordinance is actually a reference to a law that prohibits door-to-doors sales, but regardless of the name's history, these guys are truly Southern comfort.

"I think it's inevitable for us to have a Southern twist, being from Texas," Jenkins said. "We believe our personality comes out in the songs we wrote for the record. Since we were 16, we've gone through so much as people. These songs are like babies you give birth to."

If that's the case, GRO has some oh-so-sweet offspring, and I personally love every song on the album.

To quickly introduce the band to the general public, the fivesome includes Jenkins (lead vocals, guitar, piano), Jamey Ice (lead guitar), Geoff Ice (bass), Joshua Wilkerson (guitar) and Denton Hunker (drums).

"My dad was a Deadhead," Jamey Ice told Texas Music. "He's the one who bought us guitars and took us to lessons."

The parents of GRO's members have every reason to be proud of their boys; and with a truly sweet album on their hands, it's only a matter of time before Green River Ordinance becomes a household name.

"We want to write music that's real, for sure," Jamey Ice said. "But we also want to write music that's hopeful."

"Out of My Hands" is all that and then some, with a bit of real and a dose of hope mixed together in a guitar-induced sound that will have you hooked in no time...
