5.0 out of 5 stars The joys of electronica done well, September 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Out Loud (Audio CD)
As the RPM (techno, industrial, goth, electronic, new wave, gabba, poa, rave, etc.) Director of a College radio station, I have to listen to a lot of music that I have to determine whether or not I want to play it on the air. I must admit, there is a lot of crappy music that gets sent to us. This is not one of them. If you wish to expand your musical tastes beyond the simple loops of Chemical Brothers, beyond the same 'ol synth stylings of Crystal Method, and move into an etherial world of drum and bass with no boundries, this is your chance. This is just beautiful music. I have become tired of the how mediochre popular (American) music has become, and I'm glad that the Japanese are looking into the world of music the same way they look at technology, taking a concept and re-inventing it, making it a thousand times better. One request - please don't whine about how it's not like Crystal Method. There are other things out there. Expand your mind. Amazon.com is a portal. Use it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Remember when electronica meant innovation?, March 7, 2000
This review is from: Out Loud (Audio CD)
These guys do. I'm not sure why all the comparisons to Crystal Method (even in their days at City of Angels, CM never sounded like this) or why someone would put Photek in the same category as Crystal Method. Disregard all of that. If you've been a dance fan long enough to remember that the genre is all about pushing the envelope then you will love this CD. Insane structuring, inventive vocal overlays, just plain good.

4.0 out of 5 stars excellent!!, October 15, 1999
By A Customer

will you quit this crystal method thing, lord CM's gotta be one of *the* most overrated electronic acts out there, they're just dead horrible..wannabes. now if u want just great, refreshing electronic, then get "out loud". I was blown away by this debut. It has such a wide variety of musical elements blended in. jazz, strings, guitar all nicely welded together with d&b and frantic breakbeats. go buy it - now =)
