5.0 out of 5 stars The joys of electronica done well

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not in the same class with Crystal Method
I listened to this CD the first time in my car, and I didn't enjoy it much (except maybe "Limbo"). After getting home and putting on the headphones, however, my opinion changed. This Cd brings together a lot of different elements that makes for very interesting, if not imaginitive, listening. The big beats and breaks lead you out there, but in the end...

As the RPM (techno, industrial, goth, electronic, new wave, gabba, poa, rave, etc.) Director of a College radio station, I have to listen to a lot of music that I have to determine whether or not I want to play it on the air. I must admit, there is a lot of crappy music that gets sent to us. This is not one of them. If you wish to expand your musical tastes beyond the simple loops of Chemical Brothers, beyond the same 'ol synth stylings of Crystal Method, and move into an etherial world of drum and bass with no boundries, this is your chance. This is just beautiful music. I have become tired of the how mediochre popular (American) music has become, and I'm glad that the Japanese are looking into the world of music the same way they look at technology, taking a concept and re-inventing it, making it a thousand times better. One request - please don't whine about how it's not like Crystal Method. There are other things out there. Expand your mind. Amazon.com is a portal. Use it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Remember when electronica meant innovation?, March 7, 2000

These guys do. I'm not sure why all the comparisons to Crystal Method (even in their days at City of Angels, CM never sounded like this) or why someone would put Photek in the same category as Crystal Method. Disregard all of that. If you've been a dance fan long enough to remember that the genre is all about pushing the envelope then you will love this CD. Insane structuring, inventive vocal overlays, just plain good.

4.0 out of 5 stars excellent!!, October 15, 1999

will you quit this crystal method thing, lord CM's gotta be one of *the* most overrated electronic acts out there, they're just dead horrible..wannabes. now if u want just great, refreshing electronic, then get "out loud". I was blown away by this debut. It has such a wide variety of musical elements blended in. jazz, strings, guitar all nicely welded together with d&b and frantic breakbeats. go buy it - now =)

5.0 out of 5 stars A real trip, July 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Out Loud (Audio CD)
Boom Boom Satellites has come up with a very strong debut release. I believe this album is highly intelligent mix of drum and bass, clever lyrics, outstanding accompanying instrumentation, and superb sound engineering. The songs vary in moods from the insane and fast 'Oneness' and 'Push Eject' to the intense and somber 'On The Painted Desert'. All the songs are tirelessly crafted, so no endless loop beats here, the rhythms are dynamic and jive in a dizzying array of methods. Jazz elements can be detected in a sharp flight of the bumblebee, Dizzy Gillespie sort of way. Classical and other international elements can often be detected overlaying heavy bass and break beats. All in all if you are looking for a real music trip, the best of Japanese techno, and excellent instrumentals wrapped into one package, this album hits the spot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beats That Move You, May 18, 2003

When I first found out about BBS from Ridge Racer V and their song Fogbound, I was instantly hooked. After listening to a few more of their songs, I bought Out Loud and haven't stopped listening to it in 2 days.

It's an amazing mix of some AWESOME drumming (Intruder is possibly the coolest drum solo I've heard), great beats, and some nice singing (such as Push Eject). If you want something you can move to, this is a MUST have.

5.0 out of 5 stars ...From now on, music should sound like this..., March 12, 2008

I consider myself a fairly eclectic person, but it was Japan For Sale Vol. 2 that introduced me to the Boom Boom Satellites with SOLILOQUY, a well done if not simplistic song. Then hearing DIVE FOR YOU from the Appleseed soundtrack had me hooked, but it wasn't until i saw the video for "Push Eject" that I knew I was addicted.

I can honestly say that while I liked some songs more than others, I was in no way disappointed with this CD. This is just the right kind of music to blast with the windows down and have people asking "what the hell are you listening to?" The sad part is that they'll never know or understand the trance that their music can put you into.

"Missing Note", as another reviewer said, starts off slow. But when you put it not too loud and adjust the surround settings, when it comes on strong, you'd think you just stepped out of the tail end of a wormhole. It is almost euphoric.

"Push Eject" is the last thing you'd do once you start listening. Nuff said.

"Intruder" is the reason I'd want to be the drummer in a rock band because that is how it's done.

This CD is the best I've heard in a very very long time. If I could sum it up in 3 words? Game-Set-Match...

I was introduced to this album in 1999 and I was seriously blown away by the DnB/Acid Jazz/Punk fusion. It is truly musical, a hard to come by feature of electronic music. There are strong themes in this album, and no self-respecting electronic music fan, be it mainstream or eclectic should be without this album. Easily in my top 10 electronic music albums of all-time.

When the single Push eject came out a long time ago it was singled out by the NME. The album it comes from is also overall excellent, even if their quirky attack does tend to be slightly repetitive, Indeed as with many groups who have a very distinctive sound, they tend to fall into a bit of a rut. It is nevertheless great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Too good to miss, April 23, 2003
This review is from: Out Loud (Audio CD)
These guys manage to be new and old at the same time. You think it's 21st century electronica, but it's not, it's freakin' jazz. Jazz as good as any of the luminaries of the last century could manage but with some new instruments, some new techniques, and some new styles thrown in. Okey, it's electronica, and techno, and whatever else you want to call it too but more than anything coming out today (and much of today's techno/electronica could be classified as jazz) this is honest-to-goodness jazz, pushing boundaries and demolishing preconceptions. You listen to some guys with a turntable and a dub machine layer on an ounce of distortion and some FX on a sample and you think you're listening to the cutting edge. You aren't. You listen to these guys and they slice into your brain with a razor sharp beat honed to infinite sharpness. Just listen to "Missing Note" or "Push Eject" or "Oneness" and tell me there is anyone else out there that does anything close to that as well as they do it. Yeah, they're good, they're damned good, and I would advise anyone with real taste in music to give this album a listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Innovative, October 8, 2002

Kyte (Cary/NC/USA) - See all my reviews

The first Boom Boom Satellites song I ever heard was "Push Eject". For me it was something fresh and different, a hard hitting creative song. Eventually I tracked down the "Out Loud" album and I was simply speechless. This is the first electronic-type album I ever purchased as I'm no fan of Crystal Method or Chemical Brothers. The range of emotions and musical styles that this album alone cover are almost limitless. For a debut album, BBS really knew what they were doing. From jazzy to atmospheric and touching on industrial, adding some break-beat, this album is simply a masterpiece of sound. I recommend this to anyone that says they are a fan of music.
