Book Description

August 20, 2007
Clients and coworkers know Carmen Delallo, owner and CEO of a Chicago consulting firm for the travel industry, as a smart, engaging woman driven to succeed in business by a genuine love of her work.

Judith O'Shea is focused on her work too. Born and raised in Brooklyn, she makes do in a small studio apartment in Chelsea, wondering how she will salvage a livelihood in a dying field. Career motives take a back seat when she finds herself falling hard for the enigmatic Carmen Delallo.

For Carmen Delallo and Judith O'Shea, falling in love proves to be the easy part. Separated from Carmen by miles, economic class, and a duty to care for her family, Judith won't allow herself to imagine her life fulfilled. And Carmen, whose secret, unrequited love for her married best friend has compelled her to devote her life to her work, must break both addictions before her love for Judith can flourish.

More About the Author

KG MacGregor writes lesbian fiction "for the sheer joy of it," delighting in the encouragement her readers have so graciously given.

A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, KG works as a research consultant for a variety of industries, including television, publishing, and travel. When she isn't working or writing, she's probably on a hiking trail. Her favorite expedition was a trek to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro in 2001.

KG lived for several years in Northern California, but now splits her time between South Florida and her native Blue Ridge Mountains.

5.0 out of 5 stars Out of the Ordinary, September 30, 2007
By
Bett Norris (St. Petersburg, FL) - See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Out of Love (Paperback)
I've read several of MacGregor's books, and found them to be excellent, entertaining, and well-written. Out of Love holds to that standard. This is a very engaging storyline, and what always appeals to me is when the reader gets more than the standard plot usually found in the romance genre. Macgregor exceeds this standard in her latest novel. I always appreciate humor, and there is a deft hand at work here on that front alone, but several issues are handled with skill.
Two career-driven women meet and struggle to maintain a relationship between New York and Chicago. Other stressors come into play as well. Let it suffice that this book goes beyond just figuring whether, or rather how, they will end up together.
MacGregor seems committed to crafting books that don't revolve around twenty-somethings totally absorbed only with finding the right partner. Read:The House on Sandstone and Sumter Point just to list two other novels in which the protagonists are more fortyish than not.
Judith and Carmen have built careers, have had prior relationships, and have every reason to be cautious and careful. They have responsibilities and professional and well as personal commitments that complicate dating, more cons than pros lined up against their getting together.
Typical romances are all about overcoming obstacles, some of them ridiculous and flimsy contrivances in the worst of the genre.
Out of Love is certainly at the high end of this genre, and it's nice when the obstacles are real and believable and familiar. It's refreshing when adults retain and use a sense of humor facing life's little stumbling blocks. It makes for enjoyable reading. Good writing, good character development, good secondary plot lines and supporting players, all contribute to making this a very good book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Is it a Return or a One Way Ticket?, October 2, 2007
This review is from: Out of Love (Paperback)
KG MacGregor appears as one of the most outstanding writers of the lesbian romance genre at the moment. The best proof is her newest novel called "Out of Love" where you meet two women that come from two different professional status, Carmen Delallo is a succesful owner of a consulting firm and Judith O'Shea is a travel agent who is struggling with her job. It happens that they're both single, beautiful and are attracted to each other. It also happens that Carmen lives in Chicago and Judith in New York and there is a small secret that one of them cannot hide for ever.

KG describes her characters so realistic that you find yourself living Carmen and Judith's lives as your own. It's not a matter of falling in love only and `what a good time we had' but something that has to do with feelings and learning to take the right path because it is worth being with someone that makes your world fullfilled.

"Out Of Love" is also funny, the dialogues are brilliant and the end is superb (I'm not telling the end here. Just find it out yourself)

Do you know what is the worst thing it can happen when you are reading a KG MacGregor's book? That it ends.

5.0 out of 5 stars OMG, November 4, 2007
This review is from: Out of Love (Paperback)
This woman can write -- Out of Love is a deftly-plotted book with well-developed characters, dialogue that zings, and it all adds up to an extremely enjoyable read. I have not enjoyed a book like this in a long time, and we need more like this from KG MacGregor. As other reviewers have pointed out, it's wonderful to have 40-something lesbians with careers and with humor too. This book will make you forget about everything else while you're reading.
