Why is Dan Baird not a huge star? He's one of the last great rock and roll people and the only thing people know is "Keep Your Hands to Yourself" and "I Love You Period" but everything this guy's ever recorded is great, pure rock. This CD is no exception and it's the stuff he left off his other albums! That's a testament...when your outakes are as good as, if not better than the stuff that made the album. If you appreciate good rock I recommend everything Baird's ever done (not just his solo stuff...Georgia Satellites & the Yahoos too). "Out of Mothballs" is a good place to start...it's been in my CD player non-stop since I got it!

Dan Baird & his band is 3/5 of The Georgia Satellites with his group Homemade Sin recording and touring,

Former lead singer of The Georgia Satellites left the chart-topping band to start a successful solo career. What most people don't realize is that Dan Baird's band is 3/5 of the members of The Georgia Satellites. Dan Baird recruited drummer Mauro Magellan and bassist/drummer/guitarist Keith Christopher to join his touring band and have appeared on most of his solo recordings. Most clubs and booking agents are aware that Dan Baird's group best represents the original band The Georgia Satellites and their sound. The Georgia Satellites' lead guitarist Rick Richards and bassist Rick Price re-formed the band during the 1990s and continue to perform under the name with a new drummer and bassist. They released a "Shaken Not Stirred," CD containing re-recorded versions of some of The Georgia Satellites' hits. While this reunion album is decent, it does not include the core members. No matter how hard they try, Dan Baird's unique voice cannot be recreated on their hit song "Keep Your Hands To Yourself." I recommend all of Dan Baird's solo albums, as they are better any of The Georgia Satellites' previous albums. |
