THE GREATEST THERE HAS EVER BEEN OR THAT THERE WILL EVER BE!, August 4, 2005
This box set is the culmination of all of humanity's eons of trials and tribulations. It is the ultimate reward for every hardship that man, woman, and child has contended with since the dawn of creation. If we had never gone to the moon, harnessed the power of the atom, or unraveled the complexity of the human genome, all of our attempts at self betterment would have been validated by this collection of music alone. It is unecessary to say that it's the greatest thing that American music has ever produced. It is unecessary to say that is the greatest thing that any music has ever produced. It is, quite simply, the greatest accomplishment, in any field, by anyone, anywhere, ever.
I don't recall paying as much as it's going for here(I think I got mine from a company in Canada for about $80.00) but can you put a price on the most fantastic gift ever bestowed upon mankind? Of course not. Get this. Get it now. Every moment that passes without knowing the glory that resides on these discs is a moment wasted.

Everything You Will Ever Need From Antoine, January 3, 2002
This review is from: Out of New Orleans (Audio CD)
This is one of the finest compilations; or should I say histories of an artist that you can find. Once again Bear Family has outdone themselves. From 1948 on you can enjoy Fat's catalog. I was in New Orleans when I purchased this and drove over to Fat's home the next day. He autographed a picture for me (forgot the Box Set cover) and later that day had the engineer and producer of just about every New Orleans session (INCLUDING THIS BOX) Cosimo Mattasa autograph the box set. Mr. Mattasa has to be put in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It is an outright shame that the man who supplied the studio for the likes of Fats, Shirley and Lee, Little Richard and others has not been acknowledged

Definitive Box Set, August 5, 2003
This review is from: Out of New Orleans (Audio CD)
This is how Box sets should be. No compromise on the tracks included, no compromise on audio quality, no compromise on packaging. The Bear Family a deserve six star rating for this chronological set of ALL the Imperial recordings with detailed discography listing session musicians, locale etc. along with essays on aspects of Fats life and times. I heard my first Fats track in 1956 and it's still as fresh today. The music is never complicated but is imbued with fun, light and air. What your excuse for not having this set in YOUR collection?
