Totally Engrossing Paranormal - MUST READ!, September 1, 2005
This review is from: Out of the Night (Night Slayer, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
One can say in truth that this is a new author in the ever increasing Paranormal genre; and one can also say that in this genre - make room for a rising star, for if this author's future offerings can sustain the excitement and thrill she generated from this, her initial offering - she is well on her way to a very successful career.
Lanie Weber wasn't afraid of danger (maybe flying) - but as a volunteer fire-fighter and EMT she could face most situations without batting an eye. Needing to put some closure to the heart-breaking news of her father's death - Lanie knew she had to see for herself that the scientist father she adored was truly dead at the research center he worked at deep in the Amazon jungle. The only way to get there was via a private charter but when she saw the plane it was with great trepidation that she boarded the plane at all.
Mac Knight, the veteran pilot her `Uncle Charles' had set her up to fly her into the Amazon jungle, then drive her to the secret research lab was more than just the most gorgeous guy she'd ever seen and more than a simple pilot. A retired Navy Seal - he'd worked special ops before for `Uncle Charles', but nothing could have prepared him for Lanie, or for the face off with a creature that belonged only to legends. When Mac was attacked and bitten, Lanie using her EMT skills was able to keep him alive to battle another day. As Lanie's feelings for Mac grew so did her suspicions that the kiss she so desired would grant her more than she ever bargained for.
*** Whew - this was one very quick read as it was not a book one could start without finishing in one sitting. The lead couple was well defined, extremely genuine and likeable. Along with the thrills, chills, twists and turns of the suspense plot the underlying sensualness gave it an even more satisfying and lasting flavor. The reader will find this story to be a well-written, totally engrossing, and feature a very satisfying romance that brings to light some new twists on the vampire stories. I highly recommend all you Paranormal junkies to get out there and get yourselves introduced to this new kid in town!

FINALLY!!!, October 2, 2005
This review is from: Out of the Night (Night Slayer, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
About time!!! Robin T. Popp caught my attention with her first book, TOO CLOSE TO THE SUN (Lovespell 2003). Then nothing! ARGH! The book was highly imaginative, original, with strong characters. Popp had all the ingredients for a super book and she delivered. I kept waiting for more tales from this talented lass. Surely, a writer of this caliber would soon have more. It's been a dry two years, but finally Popp has a new book out from Warner Forever line. OUT OF THE NIGHT once again proves Popp is a writer to watch.
Lanie Webes is a fireman¯(firefighter person??? lol) and EMT. This was no delicate miss, but a woman who faced life and death situation as part of her daily routine. When her father, a scientist, dies at his research center deep in the Amazon jungle, she has to travel there to really settle in her mind that he is truly dead. The trek there is not a simple choice. She must hire a private charter plane. And while she dashes into burning building to save people, getting into that dilapidated plane summoned all her fortitude.
Her Uncle Charles arranges for Mac Knight, the pilot of that thing he called a plane, to fly her deep into the Amazon jungle, then drive her to the top secret research centre where her father died under mysterious circumstances. The pilot is a former Navy Seal, and has worked for `Uncle' on missions before. Lanie is floored when she meets the pilot - the man is drop dead gorgeous. By the same token, Mac is little prepared for the quick action lady. When he is attacked and bitten - by a `creature' (won't say more than that to keep from spoiling the fast ride), Lanie's actions are automatic, drawing on her EMT skills to keep him alive. As Lanie fights for his life, her attraction grows for Mac.
The story is mesmerizing, rapid action that keeps you turning page after page. As with her first book, the characters are vivid, the action strong. Just one great vamp read. Highly recommended.
Welcome back, Popp! Don't take so long for your next book, lass!

A MUST READ!, August 24, 2005
This review is from: Out of the Night (Night Slayer, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
In Out of the Night, Robin T. Popp delivers a phenomenal, fast-paced story that will leave readers on the edge of their seats. This novel is a roller-coaster ride from page one. Never a down moment, count on pulling an all-nighter and calling in sick for work. I typically average one book a week but fell captive after page one and finished Out Of The Night in a day.
A hybrid of strength and vulnerability, grief-stricken Lanie Weber travels to the Amazon jungle to recover the body of her father, a cryptozoologist killed in the course of his studies. Mac Knight, a sexy, cynical, ex-military pilot, delivers Lanie to her father's research facility in the heart of the jungle. There, side-by-side, their journey begins. With the exception of several grisly corpses, Lanie and Mac find the research facility eerily abandoned and her father's body missing. Yet they aren't alone. Something waits for them in the jungle, a creature of legend that will force Mac and Lanie to risk both their lives and hearts.
The unpredictable plot and intense sexual chemistry between Mac and Lanie make this one of the most suspenseful stories I've ever come across. I devoured every page, unsure what thrilled me more - the anticipation of seeing these two protagonists fulfill the sexual chemistry between them or the desperate need to see them reach their happily ever after. If you want a book to make your breath hitch - in more ways than one - this is it.
Perhaps of even greater note, this author provides a new twist on an old premise. The use of the legendary chupacabra is refreshing and innovative within vampire lore. Out Of The Night stands singular among all vampire novels. Major applause for Robin T. Popp. I eagerly await the second book of this series.
