2.0 out of 5 stars Just couldn't sink my teeth into this one
Boy, almost all the characters in this book were shallow, manipulative and depressing. Unfortunately, the main character seemed just as shallow for awhile because very little about her is revealed until at least the half way point. A little more character development early on probably would have helped increase my interest in her and her troubles. Not real...

5.0 out of 5 stars Mystery worth ordering, June 20, 1999

By marrying rising superstar Doug Alexander, Philadelphia attorney Campbell Smith has seemingly added the final piece to the perfect life puzzle. Senator and Mrs. Ramsey host a celebration in the honor of the newlyweds because he is Doug's mentor. At the party, Cam learns that her new spouse is running for a seat in the House.

The happiness at the gala event turns sour when some unknown assailant(s) kidnaps the Ramseys' teenage son. Instead of notifying law enforcement officials, the Senator demands Campbell finds his boy. Cam, experienced in investigations, soon learns some of the darker secrets kept by Ramsey that he would not want to have surface. As Cam digs deeper, she begins to look within as murders strike close to home due to a deep secret she keeps.

OUT OF ORDER is an excellent who-done-it filled with viable red herrings and several reasonable twists. The well-crafted story line is filled with passion. However, the characters make this novel very entertaining as everyone seems to be carrying hidden baggage so that the fear of dark secrets surfacing dictates decisions. Bonnie MacDougal provides readers with a winning suspense-laden tale that grips the audience from the start to the finish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly entertaining, May 5, 2001
This third book by Mrs. Macdougal is quite up to expectation; a simple entertainig thriller to be read on holiday or in a relaxed mood. It is a straight forward well plotted novel written in a sympathetic and sensitive style with enough plot and twist to keep the interest level high.

It is a nice reflection on the devastating impact public life, ambition and politics can have on the private lifes of those involved, particularly on those next to the limelight.

Her description of what happens to the little boy is quite realistic and never gets into the " that could not happen to us".

All in all, an enjoyable read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling and provocative, October 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Out of Order (Hardcover)
This is a novel in the grandest tradition of novels, with a multi-layered plot and a complex and dazzling cast of characters. It's fast-paced but not facile; indeed, it's thought-provoking and incisive and really exposes our political and legal systems for what they are. The characters are rich and real, and the ending took my breath away.

More people need to discover this author. She's heads above the rest of the crowd.

4.0 out of 5 stars This was an entertaining novel, September 14, 1999

This novel had several different story lines going at the sametime. It was suspenseful and entertaining. It was fun reading aboutlocations nearby. I like the Sue Grafton and Patricia Cornwell novels and thought this was in the same catagory.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Hot Read!, November 4, 1999

This review is from: Out of Order (Hardcover)
Having read MacDougal's two previous novels, I eagerly awaited her third, OUT OF ORDER. I was not disappointed! The novel is intelligent, moves quickly, and keeps the reader wondering what will happen next!

I greatly enjoyed MacDougal's imagery, attention to detail, and storytelling skills. The story held my attention from begining to end, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an entertaining read!

Boy, almost all the characters in this book were shallow, manipulative and depressing. Unfortunately, the main character seemed just as shallow for awhile because very little about her is revealed until at least the half way point. A little more character development early on probably would have helped increase my interest in her and her troubles. Not real suspenseful, but characters with juicy secrets run rampant in this book. The story itself flows pretty well, so if you want a political/legal mystery, this will probably be entertaining for you. Just not quite my cup of tea. For those interested: there is some mild sexual content, occasional profanity and violence.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, October 18, 1999
This review is from: Out of Order (Hardcover)
Having read Bonnie MacDougal's previous books, I was eager to pick up a copy of her latest "Out of Order." I have to say I was very disappointed. While fast-paced and intriguing, I found the characterization, particularly of Doug Alexander and Steve Patterson to be superficial. The plot is all over the place, with too many threads going on that don't quite connect. I have to say a disappointing read all around.

4.0 out of 5 stars two thumbs up, January 24, 2000

I haven't read her other books yet, but I will. A good read. It's written from a female perspective, which should appeal to lots of readers whe dont normally go for the mystery/thriller/legal genre. Good book
