I loved this book! I felt that it was extremely well written and constantly kept me waiting and watching for what would happen next. I was breathing a sigh of contentment with three pages left to go, and WHAM! Patricia added an action packed finish. I had a smile on my face when I finished, because I had her next book in hand ready to read. If you love a good mystery you won't miss with this book!

In ths fast-paced thriller, the heroes are trying to find a kidnapped boy, Ryan, as he tries to escape. CIA agent Erin recognizes a magician as one she saw when her sister was kidnapped, 19 years ago, and believes the cases are related. The bad guys are truly evil, and always close behind, causing many twists and turns. The characters are so real. This book will even make you see the internet differently. Patricia Lewin has a wonderful way with words!!

Gripping read that grabbed me from Chapter one and never let go until I finished the book about 4 hours later. I really enjoyed "Blind Run" and I was hoping that this book would meet my expectations and it did. I would definately recommend this book to anyone.

Gruesome SIX stars story,
By
This review is from: Out of Reach: A Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
The dire story of grown people -that I can't call them men or women- that molest children is really gruesome. We need to harp our children and ourselves to be very careful with all the people either they know them or not. We've to tell them not to do anything they don't want. I can't tell you that this is a nice story but definitively a must read and learn of it.Now let's start counting stars: 1 The book'll thrill you from the first page till you finish it. Including the very last page. This mean that the book never goes out of the main plot. 2 You'll see that the police, FBI, CIA or whatever not always are to "Serve and protect" but to do only their prime job. 3 This awesome story is a reality and we must open our eyes to see it. You'll have to learn how to protect your family and friends. 4 Writing about this horrible subject and at the same time thrilling you with the police work is not an easy task. 5 The story is so well written it even doesn't have or need a love story. 6 Because is a really good book.

Fascinating Thriller,

This review is from: Out of Reach (Hardcover)
Patricia Lewin, author of highly acclaimed novel BLIND RUN, returns again with her latest, a thriller whose main protagonist is a CIA operative. Dr. Erin Baker, a Georgetown University professor, is also a CIA agent, working undercover to ferret out possibly terrorist sentiment among the students there while also caring for her young niece. When a small girl is abducted from the park Erin visits for her morning run, the ice cream vendor working there that day trigger's memories of a magician present at a Miami park where her sister, Claire, was abducted nineteen years ago. Though recovered four years after her disappearance, Claire has suffered from psychiatric difficulties ever since. Convinced that the ice cream vendor is the magician that took her sister, Erin approaches FBI agent Alec Donovan, as the two attempt to put the pieces together and search for other missing children.Ms. Lewin's complex plot ties together the disappearances of children with a slave ring, and a powerful German businessman, General William Neville. As Alec and Erin search together to connect General Neville and the child snatcher in his employ to the abduction and sale of children, their lives remain in constant peril, until the novel's surprising conclusion. With the popularity of espionage plots in both visual and written media, this newest novel from Ms. Lewin should prove fascinating for those enthralled with the subterfuge of covert operations.

Much like Patricia Cornwell...,
By
This review is from: Out of Reach (Hardcover)
Erin Baker is highly regarded in the CIA. She is driven by guilt from her past. When she was only a child herself, her eight-year-old sister, Claire, was kidnapped from the park. Erin was supposed to have watched Claire. She failed. Claire was eventually found, but she had been changed forever. Now Erin may have a chance to finally catch the man responsible. He was known as The Magician. Alec Donovan is an FBI agent on the hunt for a missing child. His record for locating missing children is high. His hunches are almost legendary! Erin is positive that the person who recently kidnapped the boy Alec is searching for, is the same one who took Claire all those years ago. On a hunch, Alec agrees. The two begin an investigation that digs up horrors, committed by untouchable people in very high places. **** This one will keep you turning the pages at the speed of light. It is an intense plot that is all too real. Much like Patricia Cornwell, this author seems to be creating a realistic hero and heroine in which the reader can grow attached to and look forward to seeing in future books together. These main characters are attracted to one another, but their romance will grow slowly and fans may watch as it blooms. I find myself eagerly awaiting the next release involving Erin and Alec! **** Reviewed by Detra Fitch of Huntress Reviews.

exciting police procedural romance,
This review is from: Out of Reach (Hardcover)
CIA Agent Erin Baker blames herself for what happened to her younger sister. When Erin was twelve, she was supposed to watch her eight year old sister Claire. Instead she was to busy playing and someone abducted Claire. A few years later Claire was found, but was not the same person. Now Claire resides in an institution while Erin and a family friend raise her niece Janice. As the news flashes about missing children, Erin notices an ice cream truck vendor doing magic tricks that causes a recall back to the day Claire was taken as the hands of the magician seem the same though the person looks different. When a new abduction occurs, she informs the FBI Agent in charge of the case Alec Donovan what she saw. He breaks the rules as he recognizes that Erin is more than just a passerby with a tenuous connection. Instead he adds her onto the investigation team that soon leads the duo to mixed feelings as love flourishes between them. A battle against an evil soul that has no qualms about stealing the innocent soon looms and love might not be enough to overcome the fiend. OUT OF REACH is an exciting police procedural romance that sub-genre fans will enjoy though the pit of the stomach will ache due to the abduction of children. The story line is fast-paced as Erin and Alec comb the country following up on clues. Though Claire's tale is not as clear as it needs to be to explain her further setback, fans will appreciate this entertaining serial kidnapper tale. Harriet Klausner

This book is billed as a thriller. I enjoyed the basic premise of the book, but for me there are different levels of thriller.I would classify this one as "soft-thriller". There are no real surprises, the main characters are all likeable and the main leads are always female and male who end up falling in love. While there is nothing really wrong with the storyline (serial children killer) the whole thing is deja vu at best and the writing style is kind of sugary. Average read. |
