4.0 out of 5 stars Intense, emotional, conflicted
Both of the stories included here fit the above description. The lead characters, especially the vampires, are conflicted about their desires and choices and how those will affect others. The author does not shy away from talk of God, angels, damnation, etc., and it makes for a much more interesting read that the usual stuff. One reviewer in the book called the ending of...

3.0 out of 5 stars Reruns aren't only on tv
Once again the Stories of Aidan, and Maeve Tremayn When they were first Printed I read them and I'm still of the same opinion. The story of Aidan seems to be over done He was made a vampire and didn't want to be one, so does his best to become human Then he falls in love with a mortal(yawn)! The best of the two is the story of Maeve. She enjoys being a vampire and she...

This review is from: Out of the Shadows (Mass Market Paperback)
Both of the stories included here fit the above description. The lead characters, especially the vampires, are conflicted about their desires and choices and how those will affect others. The author does not shy away from talk of God, angels, damnation, etc., and it makes for a much more interesting read that the usual stuff. One reviewer in the book called the ending of Forever & the Night "bittersweet." I worried about that through the whole book, only to find it inaccurate. Pay no attention.

Miller's vampire world is gloriously detailed, with a well thought out history, compelling and well-defined characters in both lead and supporting roles, and just enough doubt as to the outcome to retain reader interest. I look forward to seeing them all again, especially Valerian. Superior writing.

The only thing I have against these stories is that Miller tends to wrap things up too quickly, leaving the resolution not quite realistic. Also, I really would have liked to know more about Aidan & Maeve's no-longer-existant sibling relationship. These two things drop the work to 4.5 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected., June 5, 2004

Well. First off, these are not your traditional romance-book vampires. Oh yes, here we have a brooding "Oh I'm such an unnatural horror, I don't dare touch her purity" man, issue one; but the damnation in question is taken in a literal sense, with no doubt of the reality of a soul, or of God and heaven and hell and the place in all this of a vampire. These are topics that most romance books shy away from for fear of upsetting the story. This one includes them integrally.

So... not what I expected, but the first story is very lyrical and lovely. The second starts out more clumsily when you step straight to it from the first.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Read, February 21, 2011

Although I wasn't pleased with the condition of the book, I love the story. I read the series when it, originally, came out...close to 20 years ago. I lost all my books, and was extremely excited to find them all on Amazon!! If you're interested in Vampire Romance, don't hesitate to get this book. But, I highly recommend that you read the first two, in order to understand and appreciate the main character.

This is a good read. Not a typical vampire thriller. The vampires sleep alot and I did get tired of reading about sleep overcoming them but the stories kept you turning the pages. Interesting characters and so are their histories. I would recommend this book.

These are fabulous stories and I am now reading them for a third time. It's wonderful to get lost in the fantasy of vampires and mortals, lust and romance. I recommend all 4 of these. No yawning here!

5.0 out of 5 stars Read the whole Series!!!!, September 6, 2003
This review is from: Out of the Shadows (Mass Market Paperback)
I absolutely recommend all 4 LLM Valerian relateds. These Books are good fun and very romantic...Each story creates a bigger and more colorful picture of paranormal existance. The characters actually become old friends as you get deeper into who they are and the circumstamces that round them out. As you get more involved you find yourself cheering for the undead and more afraid of the mundane than the Vampires. You'd have to have a stunted imagination not to enjoy these books. Keep up the Good work Linda, you're doing Great!!!!!!!

The best of the two is the story of Maeve. She enjoys being a vampire and she falls in love with a mortal, but she turned him into a vampire with the help of another vampire who had watched over her twin Aidan. It is a Good book in some areas. On average I guess. Since both stories are in this book you could just skip Forever and the Night and you would be happy.
