Good but not Great..,
By destiny morna "destiny21" (louisiana) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Out of Sight (The Men of T-FLAC: The Wrights, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
This was the second book by Cherry Adair that i have read--the first being Kiss and Tell and for some reason, this book was a little disappointing.Out of Sight tells the story of AJ- a female sniper in an anti terrorism unit. Due to a training mishap, she has lost her edge and makes a mistake on her first assignment. Her partner is Kane- a legend in the anti terrorism unit. Together, AJ and Kane are after a terrorist who has stolen a virus and intends on releasing it. They follow the terrorist over the desert to his hiding place to stop his plans. On the way, the battle his henchmen, their feelings, the desert environment etc. In premise, this book sounds like it should be great, but AJ was a little one dimensional and the book was off. I liked the character of Kane but never felt the chemistry was on between him and AJ. Like other readers, i thought that Kane guessing Aj's real name was hilarious, but otherwise the story seemed disconnected. I hope her other books are better.

Declining series,

This review is from: Out of Sight (The Men of T-FLAC: The Wrights, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
I enjoyed the other books in this series, though strangely, it seemed to me that each successive book was a step down from the one preceeding it. Kiss & Tell remains the strongest and most enjoyable. By the time I got to Out of Sight, the decline in reading pleasure had sunk so low that I was unable to finish the story. I was completely turned off by the self-centeredness of the heroine. Her inability to see the larger picture in life and death situations endangered not only herself but others, and ultimately led to the death of another character. She seemed less troubled by this than she was with proving herself, which I found contemptible. My two stars are for the hero, who deserved a much better woman. I'll be waiting for Ms. Adair's newest entry, On Thin Ice, to be released in paperback before purchasing. I sincerely hope this series, which began with so much potential, will get back on track. The author has a lot of talent, and I'm looking forward to better things from her.

So disappointed! Too much terrorism, not enough romance.,

I waited SOOOO long for this book. I'm a huge Cherry Adair fan. Like most of the other reviewers, I found this book to be very disappointing. Part of the problem was that the action part of the book (involving chasing Osama-like terrorists, doomsday machines, potential mass casualties) was just too intense. To have the main character experiencing a romance in the midst of this terror was just ridiculous. I was too freaked out by all the terror to really buy their ability to jump each other in the midst of severe danger. This formula CAN work if handled gently... for example, Suzanne Brockmann does it with her Navy SEALS. I'm really hoping that Cherry Adair scales back the terror and cranks up the romance in her next book!!!

Ruined the Wright Family Series...,
By "riccidar" (Chicago, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Out of Sight (The Men of T-FLAC: The Wrights, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
What a major disappointment! I was eagerly awaiting the new book in Ms. Adair's Wright Family series, and it was a total flop. Is she just pounding out the words to finish this series or what? I thought she was a fabulous up and coming. It turns out she came and went. What was she thinking? These two characters had no connection whatsoever, unless you count the sex. Which by the way was pretty far fetched and not at all hot and bothering like her previous novels. I don't recommend this one at all. What a shame

Disappointing,

This review is from: Out of Sight (The Men of T-FLAC: The Wrights, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
Compared to the other Wright sibling books, this one has more military action and less relationship development. Basically, A.J. Cooper and Kane Wright fight the enemy, have sex, fight the enemy, have sex - you get the idea. The sex isn't as good as in the other books and, sometimes, it borders on the ridiculous. The absurd sex-while-riding-a-camel scene sounds like it was taken from an Arabian Prince Abducts Fair Maiden bodice ripper. And the book is filled with annoying inconsistencies. One that really bothered me was Kane getting dressed after a night of sex in a stranded HUMVEE during which A.J. has literally shredded his clothes. Did I miss the part where he tossed the Samsonite with a change of clothing into the HUMVEE? After being repeatedly told about Kane's razor sharp senses, we're expected to believe that his Egyptian guides sneak out of their desert camp with 6 camels? And that Kane and A.J. walk for hours across a desert with no landmarks and arrive at their destination, no worse for the wear? Give me a break. And, in case you're wondering, you never find out what A.J.'s name really is.

Uneven story line makes for a bumpy read !!!,

This will be my last Cherry Adair book for awhile! Her writing is starting to become tiresome and boring. I think Ms. Adair has lost her edge. Think I'll go back to Stella Cameron for sizzling romance or perhaps PC Cast (a new writer that I enjoy as of late.)

severly lacking,

This review is from: Out of Sight (The Men of T-FLAC: The Wrights, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
Ms. Adair's current novel is a dramatic departure from her previous ones. It severly lacking any depth of character and reads more like a poor attempt at erotica. She is capable of so much better than this.

Not like the others...,
This review is from: Out of Sight (The Men of T-FLAC: The Wrights, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
Kane Wright has one objective, to kill a terrorist. Although against it, Kane follows his orders to take rookie sharpshooter A.J Cooper with him on this assignment. When she cracks under the pressure, Kane doesn't care how she looks or makes him feel, he's taking her down.A.J Cooper spent her whole childhood relying on her looks. When she went out into the big bad world, she knew that she didn't want to count on her looks for success. Joining T-FLAC, she had the highest goal, which goes up in smoke the day that she screws up the op. Although I immensely enjoyed Out of Sight, it didn't hold a candle to the three previous Wright books. Although high on suspense, it was low on romance, which was a big dissapointment. Adair endeared her writing to me with her humorous, yet dramatic approach at love which was most noticeably absent in this book. If you haven't read this series, don't start with this book. Kiss and Tell is still my favorite :)

Great characters...but choppy storyline......,
By A Customer
This review is from: Out of Sight (The Men of T-FLAC: The Wrights, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
Kane Wright was definately the selling point of this book. His character alone made it worth the read. That's about it. Parts of the storyline were choppy, leaving this reader having to turn back a few pages to see if I missed something. The best parts of the book were when Kane would make up names for what A.J. stood for. Bottom line. Lot's of sex with no emotion. Definately not in the same league with Kiss and Tell, but deserves to be read..at least once...but, is not "keeper shelf" quality.

I've read all of Cherry Adair's books, and even though her books tend to stretch the imgination they are really enjoyable. However "Out of Sight" was out of sight, I have to agree with the last reviewer. Kane sounded hot, hot, hot, AJ sounded to full of herself, and not someone Kane's character would even tolorate. I became so disgusted with her character I did not even finish the book, and have already packed it for donation. However I will continue to read her books, I'm hopeful this was just a one time thing. I would wait til it's in paperback and at the discount store. |
