4.0 out of 5 stars Bryan's a journeyman musician who's hit his stride w/ substance & depth, January 29, 2007
This review is from: Out of the Storm Ep (Audio CD)
Playing Time - 19:08 -- This five-song limited edition EP features five songs from Bryan White's upcoming full-length release of the same name. Originally from Oklahoma, Bryan relocated to Nashville about 1990 to chase a dream in country music. With not only great talent but strong business acumen, he attracted many fans, especially from a younger demographic. As Nashville execs were looking for young talent, they discovered that Bryan's maturity belied his age. His first two albums, a self-titled project and "Between Now and Forever," went platinum. His emergence, work ethic, and vocal talent earned him many coveted awards.

This taste of his songwriting, singing, and instrumental work show Bryan as a journeyman musician who's now hit his stride with both substance and depth. Not only has Lady Luck smiled on him, but his success has been well-earned by paying dues on the road or in the recording studio. For me, his songs demonstrate that he has a big heart, and his empathy is encouraging to others. With uplifting messages, "When You Come Around," "The Little Things," and "On My Own (Hymn of the Road)" are the kinds of intensely evocative songs that launch successful musicians to even greater heights. Sung with an ache in his voice, the former suggests that turning a corner in one's life can lead to love and forgiveness between a son and father "with liquor on his breath."

"Hands of Time" is a song that's been around over a decade, and it also features the co-writer Steve Wariner trading off the verses in a fresh rendition of "Everybody's runnin' a little late like me, The whole world's runnin' behind, Can't seem to get where we need to be, Gettin' slapped around by the hands of time." It's always fun to hear how a well-seasoned voice like Steve's sits side-by-side and compares to a younger rising star's like Bryan's. Wariner has been a strong mentor, and Bryan was even invited to play drums on Wariner's Grammy-nominated instrumental album "No More Mr. Nice Guy."

After ten years of touring, Bryan took a short sabbatical to get married and start a family. A renewed emphasis on songwriting and recording have resulted in "Out of the Storm," his first new album in about three years. It shows that he's still got the inspiration and talent to continue making big waves in the future with his positive music.

It's been many years since Bryan White hit the road with "Twenty-five dollars, a pilgrim's soul, a guitar and a dream." There have no doubt been ups and downs along the way, but he realizes he can't give up, can't give in, and can't look back. But, I'd certainly argue that this talent is more than ready to let the dream in. (Joe Ross, Roseburg, OR.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Now and Forever, July 17, 2009
This review is from: Out of the Storm Ep (Audio CD)
Bryan White has always been at the top of my collection. His inspirational tracks are always welcomed and he never goes out of style. I especially love those that refer to mature love that has continued down through the years. Our young people need to hear more of these kind of songs to remind them that real true love does exist! My favorite among the favorites is The Tree. I cry each time. Thanks Bryan for coming back again and again with fresh new inspiration! Love to you and your family!
