A mixed bag, but worth getting,
By A Customer
This review is from: Out in the Sun (Audio CD)
This album isn't as consistent or as ambitious as "The Story of I", which really is the first album for any new Moraz fan to try. That said, there's something laid-back and good natured about this album, and I have to admit that I listen to it more often than "I". The "Story of I" demands all your attention, while this album is more like pleasant company. There's a few really atrocious cuts on it (Love-Hate-Sun-Rain-You being the worst offender), but don't let that put you off the rest of the album. The cover gets across its feel pretty accurately -- imagine a mellow summer day in the mid-1970s.

The Latin side of Moraz,
By A Customer
This review is from: Out in the Sun (Audio CD)
Of all the Moraz lps I have, this is my favorite! It has a nice Latin flavor to it, with a kind of Brazilian/Cuban percussion, New Age "lite" edge to the excellent keyboard work. The cuts alternate between levels of energy, ebbing and flowing like the ocean which really does make you feel the album is aptly named. I wish more of his solo work would be released on cd - I'd love to get "Keep the Children Alive" in this format. Recommended for those who enjoy new age jazz, and those who like all kind of positively charged Latin music.

This Re-Master CD is a must have,
By
This review is from: Out in the Sun (Audio CD)
I bought this album (yes, on vinal) when it was released. I read about Patrick Moraz's talents before he joined YES in '74 for the Fantastic Relayer Era of their career. I tried to buy the Mainhorse LP from a company that imported vinal to the states, and I got a rather disappointing note saying "Forget it, it's boring". So I started with Refugee, I liked Patrick's playing right away, then bought Mainhorse. I have followed Patrick's playing ever since. These Re-Master CD's are a real treat. Patrick put alot of effort into it, and the Extra Track is a real bonus.

Simply amazing,

This album was simply amazing when it came out and now I am ready to buy it on CD. He shows another side or really his ability to versify into ballads from the story of I, which is more an album with one story rather than short stories like this one. Simply an amazing keyboardist who can compose and give you a Latin (Brazilian) feel in Prog Rock. No one else can really do that and if they can please tell me about them, I will buy it too.

There are moments of brilliance on this recording however some of this material hasn't stood the test of time as well as others. Like most of my purchases these days I'm slowly replacing vinyl that simply is worn out.

Clipping?,

I also have the previous CD release of this fantastic album. This one does offer improved sound quality in many respects... when it's not clipping. I mean, every forte section of the music has horrible clipping distortion. I'm pretty sure it's not my equipment. Is it a problem with the source recordings, and the previous version's flat/overcompressed sound merely obscured it? I'd have to go back and listen. Anyone else having this problem?
A properly mastered copy of this album would take 5 stars and more. I think the heavy fusion/soul aesthetic limits the appeal of this music, but if you can suspend disbelief or laugh it off you'll realize that there is more than meets the ear.

I was expecting a little more.,

This album is good, but I was expecting more. Perhaps I just liked the photo on the front (that's one of the reasons I bought it). I was expecting a little more sonic diversity like Eddie Jobson's "Theme of Secrets" or Rick Wakeman's "White Rock." It's good listening for a Saturday morning though.

Moraz's Masterpice,
By A Customer
This review is from: Out in the Sun (Audio CD)
I think this album is the best works of Moraz -- I don't care what Moraz may rate it. He mixed sounds and voices of his men originally and uniquely in the mid of 70's. "Out in the Sun" is not dance music nor "sweet rock". It is not rest of Yes music. This album is Moraz himself. I heard this album for the first time when I was 17, and I like it until now. Unfortunately, I cannot get this album in my country, because the CD stores don't provide "Out in the Sun"....

Disappointing follow-up to story of I,
By Du Geiler Bock (Germany) - See all my reviews

Now this is bad! Who needs pointless quasi-prog tunes spiced with brazilian rhythms and Pat's nasty synth on top of it all! Much worse tzhan Story of I, no comparison even. And these ballads! They are sooo boring, man. Only the title track is truly great. Maybe also track 2.
