Biography

The Unseen Guest make music that is difficult to pin down. Wedding traditional Indian instruments with Western song-writing and guitar, and covering it with rich vocal harmonies, they apply this basic idea to songs that come from every end of the spectrum - sounding sometimes like a mix of American folk blues and Carnatic music, sometimes like a Parisian taking on Nick Drake, at others like Buena… Read more in Amazon's The Unseen Guest Store

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!!!, September 9, 2006

Wow! This CD is amazing; real soul music. I got the CD because I loved the song that was showcased on Putamayo's World Blues CD. I listen to a lot of world music and The Unseen Guest is the best of East meets West that I have seen around in a long time. The combination of blues guitar and Indian instruments fits so nicely that it brings you to a place that you haven't had the pleasure to visit before. The lyrics are mysterious and haunting at times. There is a true sense of other worldiness in this music. It is refreshing and new and we are lucky to have such talented and innovative artists out there to bring us this truly unique sound. A vey special CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent debut effort from this eclectic duo, November 15, 2005

Amith and Declan have just embarked on putting their music out for people to hear, albeit they've been musicians for long. I could go really verbose talking about their music, but that exercise would seem a little pointless considering [...] This is the kind of music that grows on you. Excellent piece of work!! Higly recommended!!!

I found the band in the exact same way as S. Broussard. The song "Listen My Son" is on Putamayo's World Blues CD and from that CD this is the band that really captured my attention. I love Eastern music and I also love Blues and Folk. I've never heard of a band mixing all the categories( that seemed to me to only work by themselves for the most part) and bring them together like this...and do it well! It's rare that you find music like this plus enjoy the voice that sings the lyrics. Sometimes you find a good 'band' but the lead singers tone disrupts the flow of the music. The vocals (Lead- Declan Murray and Harmony- Amith Narayan) on this CD are light yet soulful without weighing the listerners ear down with strange off key notes or being whiney. There isn't one song on the CD I want to skip!
