It's not likely that the cd release of this obscure artist will garner much attention. When Everest records released this album in 1962, it was played a little here and there on one L.A. FM station that I recall and then has been long forgotten.

It's a shame because this is a very nice record by a young man who had something to say musically. With Steve La Fever on bass and Jerry D. Williams on drums Di Tosti layed down some tasteful middle of the road jazz piano.

"Tennessee Waltz" is anything but. It is taken at a medium 4/4 tempo and swings nicely. It is followed by "Out of this World" which starts with piano only and stays that way til midway through and then swings both 3/4 and 4/4 for awhile and then returns to solo piano. Very nice. And that's how things go pretty much throughout the album. No blazing fast tempos or extraordinary displays of virtuosity but the music is swinging, tasteful and very interesting nonetheless.

My biggest complaint is that this effort seems merely boot-legged together at the last minute by Fresh Sound Records. It is clearly remastered from a mono lp and digitally cleaned up. The monaural sound is ok but I am disappoint that a more a professional effort wasn't made. All you get are the original liner notes printed twice and a photo of the original lp cover. Kinda shoddy and Mr. Di Tosti and crew deserve better.

Overall I would rate this effort *** to ***1/2 stars. Nevertheless lovers of modern Piano, bass and drums jazz should check this out.
