An excellent jazz album, March 28, 2000

This is one of the most groovin' traditional jazz albums that Byrd ever put out. Recorded in 1961, his backup band is incredible and features one of the first-ever appearances by the great (and, at the time almost totally unknown) Herbie Hancock on piano, who solos frequently on this album. Laymon Jackson and Jimmy Cobb on bass and drums round out the strong, tight rhythm section. Combine that with the amazing interplay between Byrd on trumpet and Adams on sax makes this album one of my all-time favorites. Glad to see they finally brought this one back on CD.
