More About the Author

Nancy Greyson Beckerman is a mother, teacher, artist, swimmer, student of karate, museum docent, caregiver, and medical office manager. When her husband of 33 years was diagnosed with sarcoma, a rare and deadly form of cancer, the couple fought the disease together. Beckerman kept a journal during the four years of treatment, including breaks such as vacations and family celebrations, and continuing after her husband's passing. This book is the result of that effort.

This is an honest and moving account of what it's like to support a spouse through cancer and dying. There's no last-minute Hollywood "miracle cure" in this story -- but a lot of ups and downs, doctors who are clueless and others who are guardian angels, unexpected moments of beauty amidst all the stress and fear, and ultimately a sad yet peaceful ending.

This book would be useful for anyone facing cancer or other life-threatening illness of a loved one. It would also be useful to people training to become doctors, nurses, hospice workers, etc. or anyone working with families dealing with severe illness. It shows how much difference simple human compassion and caring can make when people are facing such big health battles.

Nancy Beckerman has written an insightful, touching, and extremely helpful book for anyone who is navigating the daunting world of cancer. It is a loving account of her husband Barrys' brave journey , desbribing the highs, lows and everything in between. I am lucky to be a survivor but, the experiences and effects on patients and caregivers have a shared commonality. I wish this book had been available for my family and friends. They would have benefitted greatly.

Can you imagine anyone writing a book about cancer that you can't put down? Well, Nancy Beckerman has done it. Out Of Time is a must read for caregivers, doctors,and anyone else involved in the cancer care community. It's well written and thoughtful.You'll really learn what caregiving is all about.
