One Long Track Of Organized Chaos, May 11, 2006
This review is from: Out Trios Vol. 1: Monsoon (Audio CD)
Prepare yourself for an avant-garde trip into the outer-relm of tangible music.
On this set we are armed w/ Sonic Youth guitarist Lee Ranaldo, jazz/world drummer William Hooker, and bassist Henry Miller. This highly explorative trio pulls out some of the nastiest sounds from their collective instruments to construct one 50+ minute free-jazz/expirimental opus that will absolutely knock your ears into next month. This piece, unlike other discs recored by this group, for the most part keeps a loose groove while constantly pushing toward new soundscapes but retaining an overall feel. This track is not to be missed and is to be enjoyed during a single setting - I suggest in the dark w/ headphones or on a drive down the highway - in either case, you will need handlebars b/c this 'Monsoon' will sweep you far far away if not prepared (think of all those LSD flashbacks you may have encountered throughout the years).
"Monsoon" is the best disc from this group's "Out Trios" volumes.
