The CD is one of the best in my collection. I would highly recommend this group for anyone interested in progressive rock.

nostalgic yet new sounding,

This review is from: Out Of The Water (Audio CD)
The use of classic hammond organ and distorted but tuneful lead guitar brings a nostalgic feel to this Italian CD, but the modern production values and keyboards and a certain intangible excitement provide the needed contrast. The power and majesty of early proto-progressive British bands like Procol Harum and Beggar's Opera is captured by Men of Lake who succeed in creating an updated version of that cherished slightly mournful sound. The vocals are suited to the music, and gorgeous melodies abound, particularly in "The Dark Little Figure", "The Day we Met", "The Perception of the Wind", and the oddly celtic sounding "Ballad of the Lake". Of the two readily available Men of Lake CDs, this one has the more striking songs while the followup "Music from the Land of Mountains, Lake and Wine" is perhaps more varied and artistically superior overall.
