5.0 out of 5 stars Bliss no more -- it broke! no stars (can't edit this)
My OLD review: I had used a friend's hammock chair before buying my own, but his was made of very thin synthetic threads that catch quite easily on buttons, etc. Not so with the Charleston! The cotton rope that makes up the weave is very comfortable to sit in all on its own, or with the chair cushion that is provided, and, if it happens to catch on something, it's no big...

I have had this chair just over a month and the roping is already coming undone in two areas. Plus, you really can't stretch out completely in it if you are taller than 5'5"

My OLD review: I had used a friend's hammock chair before buying my own, but his was made of very thin synthetic threads that catch quite easily on buttons, etc. Not so with the Charleston! The cotton rope that makes up the weave is very comfortable to sit in all on its own, or with the chair cushion that is provided, and, if it happens to catch on something, it's no big deal. All I have to monitor with the kids is how far they swing...

I love it, my wife loves it, my kids love it. Can't wait to take it camping this Summer (though I may never leave the chair. Someone else has fire duty from now on).

AND NOW: well, the thing broke, repeatedly and in multiple places. The top part broke within a couple of months, at which point I filled out my warranty card and received a nice e-mail asking if I would send photos. When I finally got around to sending the photos, they included the several other places where the strands had simply snapped. I have not heard from Outback since sending the photos. DO NOT BUY THIS! Feels great to start, then falls to pieces. Total rip-off.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some not what they appear to be on line., January 3, 2009
This review is from: Outback Chair CCH-237 Charleston Rope Chair (Lawn & Patio)
Outback Chair CCH-237 Charleston Rope Chair . I have reviewed the customer pictures and reviews. It is obvious that some people are not getting the Charleston Rope Chair. This happened to me after my daughter bought me the real one for Christmas...I went back to Amazon in Aug to order another and although the picture showed it to be the same from a contract vendor; when it arrived, it was an imitation Omni swing for the same price as the Charleston Chair 79.95. No wonder one of the customer reviews said that she could not stretch out in hers. I am 5'9" and have plenty of room.
I had also ordered from another contract vendor, what I knew to be the Omni swing for less than 30.00 and I knew it would not be up to the same standard. That was fine. They refunded me 10.00 for not having the hardware as listed on the order. No problem. After receiving both swings I had two of the same chairs, same boxes and product #s, one being 40.00+ more. I had a very long and heated debate online and off with the other vendor,(who by now had already changed the name of their company on line, don't know what they are calling themselves now) of the so called Charleston Chair and ended up spending 16.00+ nonrefundable postage, to send it back to get my purchase refund from Amazon and the contract vendor. All the vendor could do was complain about how much money they were losing by returning my money. (They even wanted me to spend the postage to send back their unsolicited catalog and coupon card for another order)I was willing to keep the chair at its real worth. Said they could not make a partial refund, knew that was not the case. I lost 16.00+ and had nothing to show for it but a bad experience. Now I am hesitant to order another, that I may be stuck with another return postage for the wrong swing. As noted on the pictures from customers..some got the imitation not the real one. If you don't have a real Charleston Chair you may not know the switch. The pole is carved on the real one and it should have a small cushion in it. BEWARE! I will have to be guaranteed to receive the right one with return postage paid to order anything again from Amazon.

This has to be one of the most comfortable lounges I have been in. Not confining and so much room. Love the fact that you can lay back with feet up and go right to sleep or read a book.

The chair was beautiful and comfortable but it broke after 2 weeks. My 12 year old daughter who weighs 95 lbs was the only one in it! Very bummed!

I read the reviews for this chair before ordering and agree with every positive comment! This will be my first stop each time we arrive at the beach. The materials are soft yet sturdy. I highly recommend this product over similar rope chairs and discovered Amazon had the best online price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Thinest Rope Ever!, August 18, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Buyer beware! This is the cheapest rope I have EVER seen!! There are only a few strands twisted together - I only let the kids swing on it because it doesn't look like it is safe to hold over 70 pounds! This is doily material folks! Good thing I only paid $39.99 for it! I was very disappointed! I'm very familiar with textiles so when I say this is more like a bunch of cotton twine loosely twisted, I'm very acurately describing this chair.

I got this rope chair for Father's day and it has been amazing. I put it under our big maple in the back yard and everyone fights over sitting in it. I am 6 foot and it fits me just fine - can't lay down, but I can stretch my legs out and fall asleep in a reclining sitting position. We have not had any problems with it at all - we take it down when not in use - but we certainly have not seen any of the problems reported. I would highly recommend this, and I plan to buy it for people as gifts, and when I get my porch completed, I will buy another one for there.

3.0 out of 5 stars Charleston Rope Chair, July 7, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I ordered the Charleston Rope Chair Outback Chair CCH-237 Charleston Rope Chair. The shipping was timely and the chair arrived in one piece with quick easy installation instructions and hardware. The Charleston chair is great! We really love that you can have your legs fully outstretched in the chair like an upright hammock. The chair has thus far had no issues. The knotting of the hammock netting is quite messy and cheap looking and the bar from which the netting is hung is filled with wood filler and looks pretty cheap too but it is strong and that's what counts most of all. I do recommend bringing the chair indoors when not in use as the cotton webbing would surely not last long in the elements.

4.0 out of 5 stars My 21 yo loves this chair on our front porch, June 16, 2009

We bought this chair for our large southern front porch for our 21 yo daughter last Christmas. My husband and I "hog" the swing and she wanted a rope swing. This has been great! I did take it down this spring when the fields were being plowed to keep it from getting so dirty, but I've put it back now. I've washed it too, because it smelled musky. Came out fine. Strings a little tangled, but nothing I couldn't straighten out.
We have all enjoyed this lazy chair hammock rope swing so much.
