Good Kukri, great price,

Good Kukri, my only letdown is the stainless steel blade, as they are hard to sharpen, harder to keep a sharp edge.
A high quality carbon steel blade is better, will stay sharper longer, keep a sharper edge. I also have the KABAR Kukri, the same size as this, with a carbon steel blade, cost twice as much, but worth it.

I was kicking around picking up Cold Steel Kukri machete when this guy showed up including a sheath. I went over to You Tube to check out any reviews, found 2, and went for it. It's OK!
Guys are afraid of 440 stainless, but 440c is an acceptable knife steel, and can be quite tough when properly heat treated. I chopped up a small junker tree out back and batoned through a bunch of firewood and the blade held up fine. Couple licks on a steel and it was right back where it started. Factory edge is to abrupt and honed only so-so, but it's a chopper so it's good enough. Finish was applied evenly and held up good through use. Handle is comfortable shape/material. Slight wiggle in handle to tang fit, seems to be getting worse under use, so fit gets a solid D+. I'd buy this thing again, and I'm considering another Smith and Wesson big blade because I'm very happy with the cost/performance ratio. Go ahead and buy it.

it is a good knife, high quality, thick steel. It don't cut down sapplings as well as a machete, but it chops better and cuts brush better than a machete. It cuts like a cross between a bowie knife and hatchet.

Don't buy it. I am warning you. Broke off at the hilt the second time I used it. The steel is really brittle.

Price is right for this tool. I see why some will buy it for the "cool" factor alone. I even saw some youtube vids with fat "tough guys" chopping sides of beef with it, ribs and all. It is a good tool or a collectors item (you pick). Holds an edge and has good balance and weight. I need more length/velocity for the vines but this is a great chopper. Great Sheath!!!

Good At What It's Made For,
This review is from: Outback Kukri, Black Blade, Plain, Nylon Sheath (Misc.)
This knife is great for what it was made to do (ie: remove limbs). The front heavy blade causes the knife to propel forward as soon as the swinging motion is initiated. With a hacking tool, a razor edge isn't desired, and with a proper hacking edge this knife will cleave through just about anything that you need it to (Besides a tree trunk, if you want an axe than buy an axe). The kinetic force generated by this knife is extremely impressive, so make sure that you can control your swing. Overall, this knife is a complete pain in the ass to sharpen, but there are few other machetes that I would rather carry at any price.

Poorly manufactured, Poor Metal,
This review is from: Outback Kukri, Black Blade, Plain, Nylon Sheath (Misc.)
I should have read these reviews. I just bought a brand new one at a gun show for $15 more than amazon, so right off the bat I paid too much. It seemed like a solid blade, but after a few swings at some 1" branches, it broke in half only a few inches from the handle. No bending, but a break. Upon closer inspection, dark parts could be seen in the metal showing that a crack that weakened about 20% of the metal at that location was already present in the steel before it was finished. This can only be due to poor manufacturing methods. The metal is too brittle for hacking, thus makes this a poor Kukri.

Solid Worker,

The kukri arrived with a burr on the edge, but several swipes with a fine sharpening stone put a nice working edge on it. I took it into the brush and went to work cutting down wild roses and raspberry canes - no sweat. I moved to a wild dogwood tree and hacked it down, and again, no problem. The rubber handle provides a secure grip, and the balance is right on - at the crook - for this style of knife. The powdercoat finish and the edge were unaffected by the chopping, and a wipe with a rag wet with denatured alcohol had it looking new. I have other, more expensive kukris, and in comparison, this blade holds its own so long as you've put a sharp edge on it. The sheath is nothing fancy, yet it holds the knife securely.
For the price, and considering that it's made from a premium steel, it's a solid worker.
