Great book. A good companion to the factory manual, however it does not replace the factory manual. This books gives general instructon, the factory manual give information specific to your engine.

The book is great for boaters and novice engine repair persons. I now have a working knowledge of outboard engines. My only criticism is that while the line drawings are reasonably sharp, the black and white photos are dark and murky and are just poor quality. perhaps the publisher should have specified a higher quality of paper.

I work on boats for a living and hadn't dealt with outboards until recently. I bought this book, read through it and am able to do my job better than ever.

Pros: Great book for getting a good background on outboards. You will still need a shop manual for your particular engine, but there is more meat to this than a lot of books on the subject.
The Cons: There are no color photographs or diagrams, and that would help. Also, the paper stock on the text pages is the cheaper stock one would see in paperbacks from the 1980's. Still, not a bad investment for $!8.

Great book for generalities. Somewhat helpful but didn't have specifics of what we were looking for. Good addition to our helpful library.
