5.0 out of 5 stars Very fine biography of a very fine man
Jennifer Wright ought to have the decency to withdraw her one star review of this book. She gave it one star because the company that she ordered it from did not perform well!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very fine biography of a very fine man, September 3, 2011
This review is from: The Outcast's Outcast: Lord Longford (Hardcover)
Jennifer Wright ought to have the decency to withdraw her one star review of this book. She gave it one star because the company that she ordered it from did not perform well!

Frank Pakenham, Lord Longford, father of Antonia Fraser, was one of those brilliant eccentrics whose life is endlessly fascinating even if we don't find sympathy with their every cause or advocacy.

This work records the life of this highly idiosyncratic individual and we are enriched by such lives in our otherwise homogenized and digitalized age of conformity.

Lord Longford was pilloried for his opposition to homosexuality and his strange campaign on behalf of parole for a notorious child killer. The father of a large family, husband to a writer, extremely well-educated, a convert to Catholicism, his distinguished public life spanned most of the 20th century. Here was an aristocrat deserving of the name.

Stanford's book is well worth your time.
