1.0 out of 5 stars An interesting perspective...
The book highlights concerns about OBE, but doesn't do a very good job of describing the benefits of outcome-based education. For example, the book highlights that FACTS are over looked in OBE, the assumption being that it is useful to know the facts themselves.

The book highlights concerns about OBE, but doesn't do a very good job of describing the benefits of outcome-based education. For example, the book highlights that FACTS are over looked in OBE, the assumption being that it is useful to know the facts themselves.

OBE tends to say that facts in and of themselves are not very useful, however it is useful to know how to apply the facts. Knowing that water boils at 212 deg. F isn't so useful, that's just a number that you can memorize and only applies to water at sea level, and that is the very sort of FACT that this book says is important.

However if you know that water turns into steam at some temperature and that the temperature at which it does that varies because of air pressure you can use that understanding to consider that you need to boil macaroni longer at high elevations in order to cook it properly. That is the higher order thinking that the book belittles.
