4.0 out of 5 stars Wish I had bought more sets
Got a terrific deal on these mid-winter and just set them up last week (March). They had to go through about 3 day-night cycles before they charged fully, and now they look terrific. The cans are constructed from metal and glass, not plastic. Note these are path-marker lights, not lighting to read by. That's what I wanted anyway. The light they give off is blue-white...

1.0 out of 5 stars Great style.....Defective product
The product design and styling is great; Metal bollards appear to be very sturdy. Lots of wire allows these to be spaced up to 20 ft apart. 2 of the 4 lights were defective out of the box. These are decorative only, the 2-LED light sources are not strong enough to illuminate a walkway. NI-MH batteries need full sun most of the day to charge.

The cans are constructed from metal and glass, not plastic. Note these are path-marker lights, not lighting to read by. That's what I wanted anyway. The light they give off is blue-white instead of the usual anemic yellow from most solar LEDs. I am really happy with these lights.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great lights - bad batteries, May 16, 2007

These lights are great - solid glass & metal construction, wide solar collector, and bright output. However, the included batteries are junk, and don't do the lights justice. I replaced them with 2500mah Energizer rechargeables, and the lights are easily 10x brighter and remain on until the morning sun shuts them off.

Already owned one set purchased from Home Depot, wanted another, but Home Depot could/would not reorder. Looked online and at time of purchase the price for this set of lights ranged from Amazom quoted price up to over $129.00 per set. Bingo! Sets perform beyond expectation but can be increased with (1) better batteries, paid for by the savings on the purchase price from Amazon, and (2) lining the interior of the bollard housing with aluminium reflecting adhesive duct tape...this takes 10 minutes. Bingo! Almost a third more light. And, charge lasts all night, at the very least, with proprer placement of the solar panel in direct afternoon sunlight. Effortless to install. I bought two sets.

Well made cast aluminum with bright LED lights... They do take a few charge/discharge cycles to reach max brightness/longevity, but they are great! Easy to use and add a really classy look.

Truely spectacular quality.Great blue/white light and very easy to set up,no directions needed.althought there are directions.your able to plug the seprate lights directly into the solar panel or you can use the extra conection on the light ficture to get double the distance between lights, but the twenty feet per light seems like more than enough. For me,it was 50" apart,no where near the 20'per light(80 in all)available.Construction is solid and the light output I would consider high for a marker light.I bought multipul sets and found I was able to use one solar panel for more than just the four fictures that came in one box and would still run all night.Very neat.Lights mount only with metal spikes and the solar panel can be mounted with screws or a plastic spike.AS soon as I see them for the price I paid when they were on sale I'm buying more.

Those little lights are great. They are bright, stay lite for most of the night (8pm until 5:30am - they get a bit dimmer at this hour) and are built really well.

These lights look great; high-quality construction of glass and aluminum. You install 4 rechargeble batteries underneath the powersupplier with solar panel on top. The battery compartment is very touchy. Once the batteries are in place, I had to tap on the battery cover to get it to work. If I disturb the batteries moderately (e.g., a knock), it'll stop working and I have to go through the tapping routine again. I used 4 duracell rechargeables (instead of the ones supplied) because I didn't think those were powerful enough. After about 2 months, the batteries were rusted. There's something wrong in the design: it drains water from the solar panel into the battery compartment. I changed the way the panel is angled, put in 4 new ones, and they seem to be working ok for the last 3 months. I don't want to open it up to see whether these batteries are rusted because I don't want disturb it. Another thing, we live in Southern Calif, the winter sun here is barely enough to light these lights. I'm thinking about wiring them to an electrical source. Maybe not.

These are the simplest lights I have installed in a while. But I did make some changes, I added tin foil around the base of each LED which makes a marked difference in how bright they are. I also changed out the batteries to some Radio Shack NiMh 1700ma batteries instead of the cheapos that came with the unit. The solar panel works very well here in Southern Cal and produces juice even in shade and twilight. Not much mind you but enough to keep the lights from triggering on until it is dark. I wish there was an adjustment for that aspect, I would like them to come on a bit sooner then when its "dark".
