The screws used in the bone saw are rusting and the blade itself also has rust spots.
I also start seeing rusty spots on the caper and skinner.
Furthermore, the carrying case has one hole in the middle on each side allowing water to get in the inside of the case when left in the elements. This happened to me last time I was cleaning a hog in the rain while being in the woods. I had to drill in another hole on the corner of each side otherwise it would have been nearly impossible to get the water out. See pictures.
UPDATE after about 1 year:
- corroded screws in the bone saw handle
- grip on the sheers are falling off and are broken
- rust spots on blades
Would not buy again. Get yourself one good knife with superior steel (equal or better to 440C grade) which has a gut/skinning hook and that's all you will need in the field. For butchering/de-boning - a regular filet knife will suffice.
Cutting through moose hide will dull a knife quicker than trying to slice open a train rail, but the sharpener brought the razor edge right back every time, and with only a few swipes. The boning saw delivered as promised, cutting easily through the sternum and pelvis (well, as easily as one can cut through a moose sternum and pelvis without using a sawzall... lol)
Pretty much the only two knives I used were the caping knife and the skinner (I like using small, controllable blades when cleaning out even the biggest of game). The gut hook made slicing through the mesentery and linea alba a breeze, although it would not rip through the hide like a Wyoming Knife would.
The only real complaint I have is the rib spreader. I don't think it was designed to prop open a moose rib cage, but on the other hand, I'm not sure I was trying to implement it correctly... perhaps an instructional video would help?
Overall, no complaints, and I consider this a very, very good investment.
Effort, and all the knives are already razor sharp.
The reason I suggest this set above the rest is that the blades stay sharp after heavy use, and when they dull down, a simple hand sharpener will suffice. Buy this set.
Used it to process 4 lambs. Scissors are great to cut those ribs. Butcher's knife is ok could b a little bigger and sharper. Skinner was great though. The saw is almost useless, the tooth are too big to cut through bones with much efforts. Overall this served the purpose I bought for even though I was kinda disappointed on the saw. Will see how it holds up overtime.
Just didnt know until I saw it stamped on the blade. Recently cleaned a caribou with the swing blaze and it performed well and seemed to hold an edge pretty deceent. This kit is just more of the same. I ordered it because of my experience with the swinblaze and it was on sale.

Used this kit to field dress 2 deer. Great kit for the price. I would say now though, you don't need this many knives. Now I'm using just two. Read morePublished 12 days ago by Fulrcum
