5.0 out of 5 stars old favorite now ready for d/l! February 26, 2011
By Barbara
Format:MP3 Music
I admit I originally bought this (on Cassette! Back in the day!) for "Hide the Beer, the Pastor's Here" which mentioned the college I attended at the time By Name. But I quickly feel in love with the album and the band. "Driving in England" is possibly my favorite song of all time!

Just listening makes me feel 19 again!

5.0 out of 5 stars STOP SURFING! October 20, 2005
Format:Audio CD
So who were the Swirling Eddies? Actually, it was another incarnation of Daniel Amos, with Terry Scott Taylor as "Camarillo Eddie." Once in a while, a band's sophomore effort is stronger than their debut and this is a good example. Unfortunately, this album is out of print (hopefully, someone from Frontline records will read this and consider re-releasing it).

There are over 16 songs parodizing one thing or another. There's outright silliness, like "Arthur Fhardy's Yodelling Party" (featuring Arthur Fhardy, Camarillo Eddie and Spot on lead vocals) and "Coco the Talking Guitar." "Hide the Beer, the Pastor's Here" sardonically confronts people who have to cover up their dark side to save their "clean-cut" image (listen for many different church owned universities named at the end). "Outdoor Elvis" spoofs Elvis worshippers and their preposterous notions that Elvis will rise again (it's been almost 3 decades since the King has passed away and I still see no sign of his return). "Don't Hate Yourself" pokes fun at positive self-image people (they're not all bad, guys!) and confronts televangelists who are more interested in raising money than sharing the good news ("Money, money, money, money..."). "Modern Legends" deals with gossipers ("Remember the dog in the microwave oven?"). "All the Way to Heaven" parodizes people who think they can change someone for the better in their own power. "Rubber Sky" deals with those who convice themselves of the absence of God and "Yer Little God" confronts idol worship. "Driving in England" talks about how followers of God seem to be going against the normal flow of traffic in life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still a favorite October 22, 2005
Format:Audio CD
This music is fresh, witty and fun. About half the time when I'm listening to shuffle play in iTunes and a Swirling Eddies song comes up I wind up going out of shuffle and listening to all their songs I have. Recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Terry Taylor's best era December 18, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Well, anyone who knows anything about Terry Taylor, DA, Swirling Eddies or Lost Dogs probably owns this already or has been on their quest for years to get this holy grail. This really represents the best era of Terry Taylor's albums. This is hands down the best Swirling Eddies album ever. DA's only comparable albums are "Mr. Buechner's Dream", "Bibleland", "Motorcycle" and "Darn Floor Big Bite".
Outdoor Elvis is a work of art.

3.0 out of 5 stars Music Good, Package Bad July 14, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I was late to the party with regard to the Swirling Eddies (and "parent band" Daniel Amos), so by the time I was looking for this CD, it was long out of print. Somebody burned a copy of it for me years ago, but I wanted to upgrade to a legit copy and was happy to see that it was available.

Sadly, what was actually available is a low-budget reissue done as cheaply as possible. The song titles aren't even listed on the back of the case liner - this is about as bare-bones a package as you could possibly get. So, good that the music is available (assuming that it's a reasonable quality and fidelity CD pressing), but disappointing that so little effort went into producing it.
