5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing electric grill
My husband and I just moved into a condo and we can't use gas so we got this electric - I was used to gas, but I am getting hooked on this grill. We use it about 3 times per week and the food almost always comes out perfect!

For someone like myself who wants a solid well constructed grill, this is a fine candidate. I like the versatility that comes with the griddle on the side. The porcelain covered grates appear very sturdy.

On the down side, as one of the few people in North American who read the owners manual, I was very disappointed. The book was not very helpful in laying out the workings of the grill. For example, I had to find out the hard way that the temperature dial is only for the probe and is NOT a thermostat for the heating element. Using a temperature probe is like cooking with training wheels and I see that as a useless feature. The manufacturer does in fact state how the grill can get to 500 degrees but no other control is available. This makes the prospect of making chicken or something of that sort that requires a lower temperature a bit questionable. But I will give it a whirl. But a VERY serious word of warning, DO NOT use the top of the grease catcher!!!! the material can not be properly cleaned and will cause fires!!! just line the grease tray with foil on each use and you'll be fine.

The manufacturer could not have been more accommodating, helpful and wonderful in answering my inquiries.

So far I can't take issue with performance or function and give this grill a thumbs up

2.0 out of 5 stars Contains PTFE/PFOA on its Aluminum Sear Plate, January 17, 2009

This review is from: Outdoor Great Room Cook Number Series Electric Grills (Lawn & Patio)
I was looking for an electric grill without PTFE or any Teflon(TM)-like material. When I ordered this grill, I could not find any references to non-stick surfaces within the grill on the internet. I even downloaded the LG20IE's manual from the company's web site. There were no references to non-stick surfaces, and with it being a stainless-steel grill, I didn't expect non-stick surfaces inside the grill.

When the grill arrived, I was disappointed to find that the sear plate, instead of being stainless-steel, was made of the cheaper aluminum with a non-stick surface. I looked on the product's box, it did note that the sear plate had a non-stick surface. Calling the companies' help-line revealed within a day that the surface of the sear plate does contain PTFE.

At the temperature of 500 dF that the grill purports to reach, there is a high likelihood of PFOA and PTFE gasses being released into the air. Whatever you think about these gasses' toxicity to humans, PTFE and PFOA are DEADLY to birds. A quick Google of "PTFE birds" will reveal thousands of links referencing this problem. If you have avian pets, you should not buy this product or any other cooking product with PTFE.

I gave 2 stars because the company producing these grills, Fire Stone Home Products, had fast, friendly customer service, and they were quite helpful in researching this issue for me. This grill looked excellent for me on paper, but unfortunately, it became the first item I've ever returned to Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars New 'fangled-items', May 17, 2011

I have been using electric grills for years, but this one is awesome and being Stainless Steel makes it so easy to clean. My only problem is, being an old woman, it has been hard to re-learn my time for grilling. The LG201E Legacy Cook Number is fast and does a wonderful job. My next thing to try is 'baking' a pizza and given the way it does steaks we should not have a problem.
