Poorly made and poorly designed. Save your dog the pain, don't buy this., April 7, 2007
This review is from: Outdoor Products Dog Pack (Sports)
I put this on my 50 lb bulldog/pit-bull and it fit him pretty well. However, after just two walks with water bottles in the saddles (~ 3lbs total), I noticed that my dog's forelimbs were being worn down. The packs scraped against both of his front legs to the point that they started to bleed. I stopped using the dogpack immediately and was planning to sell it online, so I put it into the laundry machine. After ONE wash, a big hole was torn into one of the saddles, rendering it completely useless. I could only shake my head in disbelief at such a poorly made product, and then I threw it into the trash can.
The canvas material on this pack is thin and obviously not durable at all. Basically a poor design coupled with poor quality materials means that this Outdoor pack is pure garbage. This is one of the cheapest dogpacks available, and I suppose "you get what you pay for", but I feel that I got significantly less than my $30 worth. If I had just burned $30 worth of singles in a trash can, I probably would have got more satisfaction and saved my dog from some pain.
I recommend the KELTY line of Chuckwagon dogpacks, which are better designed, made with higher quality materials, and have generous foam padding to keep your dog from getting scrapes.

Dog Pack, January 9, 2007
Fits my 70 pound-ish lab well. She wears it on every walk and seems comfortable in it. I wish there were smaller pockets in the large pouches to carry small items like my keys. I put bags for cleaning up her "messes" in one side and she carrys the "mess" on the other side. I like not having to carry it with me!
Seems durable. Arrived in a timely manner. Would prefer cloth like canvas instead of this material but this material probably will make it last longer. Overall, it was what I'd expected and it works well. I'm happy with it.

Great for the Price, July 13, 2007
This review is from: Outdoor Products Dog Pack (Sports)
The medium pack fits my lean 74lbs Lab very well, with room to spare.
The material lasts a long time, longer than some other packs (including an Outward Hound pack). It now looks worn out (after 2-3 years of frequent use) but the straps, pockets, and sewing are all in great condition.
The pockets are LARGE- plenty of room to fit stuff- but there are no smaller pockets to fit smaller things. I just put smaller stuff in a Ziploc bag.
I LOVE that the pockets are deep rather than "shallow" and long; I find that it distributes the weight lower on the dog's ribs (i.e. towards the ground) rather than staying up on the spine, which seems more comfortable. This also prevents one side of the pack from flipping over the spine onto the other side of the dog.
This was a main deciding factor for me between this pack and others that have shallower pockets.
Because of the way it's sewn, the padding piece under the chest strap stays in place better than the flimsy padding on the Outward Hound pack I own, but it's not perfect... Still, can't see how they could physically make it any different.
Although it does not have a removable harness like the Outward Hound, it is VERY easy to take on or off, so this has not been a problem for us at all. It's actually easier than re-attaching the pack with all the velcro to the harness on the other brand pack!
Overall, this is a great pack! And a great price.
