4.0 out of 5 stars Dog Pack
Fits my 70 pound-ish lab well. She wears it on every walk and seems comfortable in it. I wish there were smaller pockets in the large pouches to carry small items like my keys. I put bags for cleaning up her "messes" in one side and she carrys the "mess" on the other side. I like not having to carry it with me!
Seems durable. Arrived in a timely manner. Would prefer...

I put this on my 50 lb bulldog/pit-bull and it fit him pretty well. However, after just two walks with water bottles in the saddles (~ 3lbs total), I noticed that my dog's forelimbs were being worn down. The packs scraped against both of his front legs to the point that they started to bleed. I stopped using the dogpack immediately and was planning to sell it online, so I put it into the laundry machine. After ONE wash, a big hole was torn into one of the saddles, rendering it completely useless. I could only shake my head in disbelief at such a poorly made product, and then I threw it into the trash can.

The canvas material on this pack is thin and obviously not durable at all. Basically a poor design coupled with poor quality materials means that this Outdoor pack is pure garbage. This is one of the cheapest dogpacks available, and I suppose "you get what you pay for", but I feel that I got significantly less than my $30 worth. If I had just burned $30 worth of singles in a trash can, I probably would have got more satisfaction and saved my dog from some pain.

I recommend the KELTY line of Chuckwagon dogpacks, which are better designed, made with higher quality materials, and have generous foam padding to keep your dog from getting scrapes.

Seems durable. Arrived in a timely manner. Would prefer cloth like canvas instead of this material but this material probably will make it last longer. Overall, it was what I'd expected and it works well. I'm happy with it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for the Price, July 13, 2007

The medium pack fits my lean 74lbs Lab very well, with room to spare.
The material lasts a long time, longer than some other packs (including an Outward Hound pack). It now looks worn out (after 2-3 years of frequent use) but the straps, pockets, and sewing are all in great condition.

The pockets are LARGE- plenty of room to fit stuff- but there are no smaller pockets to fit smaller things. I just put smaller stuff in a Ziploc bag.

I LOVE that the pockets are deep rather than "shallow" and long; I find that it distributes the weight lower on the dog's ribs (i.e. towards the ground) rather than staying up on the spine, which seems more comfortable. This also prevents one side of the pack from flipping over the spine onto the other side of the dog.
This was a main deciding factor for me between this pack and others that have shallower pockets.

Because of the way it's sewn, the padding piece under the chest strap stays in place better than the flimsy padding on the Outward Hound pack I own, but it's not perfect... Still, can't see how they could physically make it any different.

Although it does not have a removable harness like the Outward Hound, it is VERY easy to take on or off, so this has not been a problem for us at all. It's actually easier than re-attaching the pack with all the velcro to the harness on the other brand pack!

Overall, this is a great pack! And a great price.

Good product. Great deal for the price. Based on prior reviews, I ordered the Medium size for my 100 lb. German Shepherd, and it fits great. I put 2 water bottles in each pocket to help burn fat (she needs to lose some weight!)
I'm going to order the Small size for my 70 lb. German Shepherd to help her burn some of her energy! She wore the Medium size on our walk today and it help focus her (she tends to be all over the place). The medium size works, but I think the small would be ideal.

4.0 out of 5 stars its pretty big, August 7, 2006

I bought the large for my 90lb 11 month old lab/great dane mix and it is pretty big on him. Admittedly he's still pretty skinny despite his weight but I had to tighten the straps all the way in order to fit him. Probably better for broader dogs but I'm sure mine will grow into it :o )
The quality is excellent and there's plenty of packing space, overall I'm pleased with it especially for the price. If your dog is skinny/narrow I'd order the next smaller size

3.0 out of 5 stars way too big, September 2, 2006

I bought the small (after reading the reviews)for my 50 lb shepherd mix. It was WAY too big and we ended up with abrasions on her elbows. I'm searching for something in a smaller profile. What a disappointment.

2.0 out of 5 stars small dog backpack review, November 2, 2006

I consider my dogs to be small - they are all around 25 pounds. I have had to tighten everything on the backpack to keep them from being too loose and I still feel like they are a little bit too big. I think that for a "small" backpack, that they are just too large. Thank you.

2.0 out of 5 stars Didn't fit well, June 28, 2006
This review is from: Outdoor Products Dog Pack (Sports)
I returned this item, as it didn't fit my 19-pound Boston Terrier well at all. It was way too large for his body. "Small" obviously means small for a larger dog instead. Just be aware!

1.0 out of 5 stars Spend a few more bucks on a better pack..., July 9, 2008

We've had this pack for almost a year, and I have to say, it went into the closet after a few uses and won't be coming back out. There are a number of problems with it:

1. First, it slides forward onto my dog's neck every time we hit a downhill stretch on a hike. Whenever this happens, she freaks out and tries to shake it off. It could definitely be better designed to sit back a little further.

2. The piece of fabric that secures it under her chest seems to rub against the skin behind her front legs. After using it a few times, I noticed that the skin was getting rubbed raw and there was some hair that was rubbed off.

3. Third, and most unforgivable, there is no place to clip a leash onto this pack. In other words, if you're on a trail where you need to leash your dog when there are other people / animals around, then you have to put on a collar too. If you're trying to use a field or e-collar, then you start running out of spots to put things on the dog!

Anyway, we replaced this with one of the RuffWear Palisades packs and have never looked back. It cost a little more, but its worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars It really works!, April 28, 2008

I bought this backpack for my 90lb American Bulldog, and it has been a miracle. It is easy to use, and the straps do not cause him any irritation. I would suggest a medium size for dogs up to 90lbs as it fits great, and he has a very wide chest! I learned this trick from Ceasar, and using it in conjunction with his other "calm assertive" methods, I am now walking my dog. I actually have to make him keep up. He is no longer walking me!
